I was sitting here doing a little work when I got 6 consecutive texts from the wife:

"We just went into lock down"
"It wasn't a drill"
"Love You"
"I don't know what is happening"
"Sirens"
"Police are here"

I texted back an forth with her for a few minutes, trying to keep her calm as she has 18 kids with her that she has to keep calm, then the scariest part, 13 minutes of no returned texts.

Thankfully she finally texted back. Apparently someone either pressed one of their panick buttons that are distributed to the teachers or one malfunctioned. What matters is that they are safe. That was a very scary and stressful 30 minutes!!!

This kind of thing really hit home several years ago, being that Newtown is in our back yard. And even more so now that we are in the process of buying a new house IN Newtown. I worry every day with her being in the schools, and doubled the fact that her school is not in a great area, adjacent to housing projects. Last year they had several instances where they weren't on full lockdown, but the cops surrounded the building with armed officers keeping everyone in the school as there were shootings in the projects between rival gangs. Ugh!!!

Was this today? I'm shocked I didn't see it on channel 3. Even though it was a false alarm.

Perhaps the NH house full of fireworks was more important.

Channel 3 rarely reports on anything in Fairfield County, and especially southern Fairfield County. This was in Stamford. If it had been in Newtown, it would have been big news.

Been there. When my oldest was in kindergarten my wife called me one day at almost time for school to get out and the only words I could make out were school lockdown and guy with gun. Cell service around the school is poor and always breaks up. I was on an install that normally was about a 20 minute drive to the school. I dropped everything and made the drive in 12 minutes. I was passing cars on double yellows, passing on the grass shoulder, all while running around 90mph.

When I got to the school I found out that in the same area as the school a guy had shot his wife and then was reported to be on foot with a gun headed in the direction of the school, so the school had been put on lock down.

There were a couple deputies outside the school walking the perimeter. One of them came over to my vehicle and asked "Sir, were you passing other vehicles on the shoulder and speeding?" I admitted I was and he keyed his radio and said "disregard the white explorer. That was a parent headed for the school"

Then a couple years later for some reason when I was dropping the kids off for school, I had to go inside instead of dropping them off at the door. About the time school was to start there was a call from the county office reporting a bomb threat and ordering the school to be evacuated. Someone called in a bomb threat for all six elementary schools and the high school in the county. I helped move children to buses then helped clear the rooms looking for a kid that was missing. Thst was a bit uneasy too. The whole time thinking its most likely fake, but, what if...

I don't know that the world is getting worse, but having instant access 24/7 to news from all over the world definitely makes it feel like it is

The more liberalism creeps into our society, the worse it gets. Just stating the facts.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Amen. Liberalism allows that people are the products of their genes and their environment, and so minimize the role of individual choice. This means everybody is excused for everything. It's not their fault. We blame events caused when people make choices on nebulous things in their background. As a result, nobody gets punished commensurately with what they've done... and things get worse.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Mike I feel for ya man. My wife's a teacher and I have 2 young kids in school, so that's one of my worst nightmares.
Glad it turned out ok.

And when they're on the other side of the wall-

My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
