Another vote for nuvos new 7" onwall keypad. It IS NOT WIRELESS. So your client should be ok with that.. then you can run any app you want.. be it nuvo or sonos..

I understand we doesn't want "wireless" but why bother looking for other solutions that may work. It just cost you more time, etc. Nuvo\Sonos you are in and out and they still will have a hardwired solution and those nuvo 7" panels are crazy cheap !!!!

I tried to read all of the posts here, but I don't think I have heard you say what the source of music will be. Is he going to play discs on a six disc CD changer? Are you going to dock an iPod? FM radio?

I guess you could use a couple RTI AD4 or AD8 amps with URC KP4000 touch panels. These would work easily, then put in some macros to give them 3 or 4 Comcast music channels. "You want old school, I'll give you old school!"

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

So you have, or can get by way of the demarc, a cat5 between the two head-ends? And you have cat5 to each wallplate where a touchscreen could reside? Crestron and Control4 can handle this no problem. They want wired control? There's your answer...that also makes wireless control available for when they decide it's acceptable.

Sonos and use the Lutron caseta "music buttons"

Hard buttoned only keypad with a streaming platform is a bit of a joke. Its fine as a secondary interface to quickly pause, play, or skip tracks, and for volume, but that is it. How would a customer who refuses to use an app select what music to listen to with the Caseta option? Curious as I have never used it.

I am with Tom. Until we know what music sources they want to use, we cannot recommend the best solution...or at least our opinion of the best solution.

Yes this is a solution however, the cat5 that runs to each head end (living room and basement) is currently being used as a network cable and they are wanting to keep it this way. This causes the predicament of being able to share the audio sources between the two head ends as I need a system that can transmit network and audio over one cat5.

I don't believe Crestron is capable of doing this unless there is a unit that I am missing from their catalog. We are not a C4 dealer so that is out of the question.

The sources they are wanting are Radio (either standard AM/FM or streaming using TuneIn) and SiriusXM. They didn't mention anything about Apple music (whether from an iDevice or through iTunes).

Looking at the AD4 and AD8 from what I can tell they don't offer the ability to share the sources with the wiring that is currently in place.

Without knowing exactly what they want to listen to, all this talk is almost meaningless.

Use a Crestron DM-TXRX-STR just for audio and you're done.

Or go with Autonomic and their new "e" series which uses a single CAT for network and audio stream TO amplifiers!

They have hard button keypads and the rest is done via a webpage

C4 can do all of this. Pretty easily. I'm pretty sure that you are out of my territory, there's got to be someone local that can help you.

I don't get why everyone is worried about a single cat5 connecting the closets, there's a thing called a Switch and an uplink, unless I'm missing something and I'm just being an obnoxious smart ass.

The single cat5 is required to share Audio AND Network at each location. This is what is the limiting factor. I understand that I can install a network switch at each location to provide multiple ports, but I was also wanting to share the sources between the two head ends, and with only one cat5 at each location back to the demarc finding a solution that is able to transmit network and audio over a single cat5 is being difficult.
