I have a friend looking at going with Vivint Security.
They claim they will use the existing sensors from the ADT (Ademco rebranded) system but I could swear Vivint can only use their own sensors.
She's worried about integrating her Wink water sensors and (sic) Alexa with the new alarm panel and Vivint said they can integrate with Wink and Alexa.

Anyway, any input you would care to share I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Vivint solutions are pretty damn real. They are using a OEM version of the 2GIG GC3 panel....at this point there is a pretty big divergence of hardeware and certainly software between 2GIG and Vivint but they are still using the Honeywell 5800 wireless protocol.
Jack Rainey - Full disclosure...reformed integrator, now mid-Atlantic manufacturers rep for: Integra, Paradigm, Anthem, Parasound, Atlona, LG TV's and Metra Home Theater...among others

I will be able to give you a clearer picture on Friday. My mom has had Vivint for a couple of years and no they did not reuse her DSC sensors.

But Friday she is adding a camera, doorbell and door lock. It is all supposed to integrate with her Dot. So we will see. ie Alexa, turn on Alarm. Alexa unlock door.

What I am hoping is that the Dot can provide additional points of voice communication with the panel. There is only one and if she is too far away, she can't hear it or they can't hear her. But adding a bunch of Dots would be easy.

I'm sure you can arm the alarm and lock the door via Alexa but not disarm/unlock. That would just be stupid.

There was an article on CEPro awhile back, that an alarm company was doing just that. The way you disarmed it was by saying to disarm and speaking your code.
And you are correct, that is just f^n stupid. How far does a voice travel? Is there anyone within hearing distance?

They do have takeover products for existing sensors (wireless and wired). They have excellent product, so it's really about the service model -- if it's appropriate for the user.

Yes, works with Alexa.

What Wink products are you talking about? Can't imagine they integrate somehow with that.
