Sometimes Apple really irritates me. All I want to do is plug in Airport express into my already configured Wired network and use this POS as an Airplay device.

Is it possible to shut all of the Airports Wireless crap off and simply have the 3.5mm Headphone jack output into my Audio distribution system?

I would assume I can have my iPhone on my WiFi and my Airport on my hardwired lan then airplay from my iPhone to this POS.

Dont even get me started on the 2 icons for the 2 different Ethernet ports that make no sense outside of Cupertino.

yes i do this quite frequently, usually with a couple airports for multiple airplay streams throughout the house's distributed audio.

If you want to use it for Airplay, it needs to be on the same network as the handheld or computer.

You need AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows.

You'll have to figure out how to disable it. Since I don't have an Airport at this time, I can't go through the steps on the AP Utility. But there is a way to disable the wifi.

If you have an iPhone or iPad (or access to one), use the Airport Utility- Wireless ON/OFF is in Advanced Settings.

highfive is correct. I was thinking about using the Airport Express as a repeater for wifi to ethernet only, but not repeating the wifi. In order to do that, you'll need the 5.5.3 or earlier AP Utility for Windows.

As for the ports

Select them wisely.

If you connect the LAN port to your existing network, fun things will happen.

WAN
For connecting a DSL or cable modem, or for connecting to an existing Ethernet network.

LAN
For connecting Ethernet devices such as printers, switches, and computers.

Yes but how. This thread you linked sorta goes nowhere.

Yes of coarse. I am plugging it into my LAN and its getting an IP from my DHCP server on my Router.

Just be sure you select "bridge" under internet, otherwise you're going to have an airport running as a dhcp server with nat and all the other acronyms messing you, making two networks and killing your airplay.

The ports both become lan at this point.

While the airports are dated at best, they're still very versatile when you use them right.

So one of the problems was I didn't realize they separated, AppleTV "Mirroring" and Airplay.

I have only ever really used Airplay or mirroring with an AppleTV while showing a client. Now that I have been sitting behind a desk for 2 years or so, I lost touch a bit I guess.

Still annoyed with Apple and their insistence on making things that should be easy difficult. But they do tend to make difficult things easy. Its an odd paradox.
