In some cases, after applying the april 2017 marshmallow update, some users lose access to their tv home screen - pressing the home button brings up a grey screen, so access to the home screen and android menus from there is lost. Luckily there is an easy fix.

Steps:

1. Press the "help" button on the remote

2, select the "troubleshooting" option (first box) on the help screen

3. Select "settings" from the list of options on the left side of the screen

4. Select "configuring the tv"

5. Select "[tv]"

6. Select "jump to the settings screen"

7. Scroll to the right and select "apps"

8. Scroll down to the "system apps" row

9. Find "system software update" in the app list (it's alphabetical)

10. Select the "system software update" app

11. Choose the option to "clear data" and confirm

that will do it. Once you clear data on the system software update app the tv realizes the update is complete and access to the home screen, android menus, etc., is restored.

Its actually a little more complicated than that, but all Sony android TV's absolutely do have a pro function that lets you show or hide as much or as little of the android/home system as needed.

Another side effect I found, with the current update on a customer with the 75x940D, is that it turned off "Simple IP Control" on the TV. Thus the URC TC remote could no longer IP control the TV. Curious if anyone else had similar issue.

I have one that a customer said the control isnt working after the update. I haven't been there yet to see exactly what's wrong.

My guess its the same issue. You can have the customer check the following to see if this is the same problem and correct to save you the truck roll. When I went to the customers house to see the issues I made a note of the steps so I can have him do it in the future if it happens again. All this great tech to remotely connect to network or reboot equip and all comes to a grinding halt with a stupid software update.

Using Regular Sony Remote
- Press Home
- Scroll all the way down to Settings
- Under "Network & Accessories" Choose "Network"
(Note: In the prior step, there is a network option next to settings but all the options are not avail here)
-Select "Home Network"
- If "Simple IP Control" is "Off", change it to "ON".
- Everything should now work again.
