It's a 40.2. My first thought is the HDMI board, but everything is analog (tv is a dlp so it's component). Could this still be the hdmi problem?

If everything is analog it has nothing to do with HDMI. Factory default it.. if that doesn't fix it (unless someone went in and set up all the inputs to use digital only) it it is toast.

It's on analog mode only. I couldn't get it to switch to auto.

The audio is processed on the hdmi board as is the network and USB, so yeah no audio could be the hdmi board

Yep!

Other hallmarks of the hdmi board issue.... would might pop on after the rave has been on for a while and warms up. Sound (from analog inputs) will work on powered zone 2 outputs.

Might be some helpful reading here. I just went through this with a 30.3 (which ended up being replaced). The first link has some good info, and the second link is found in that thread, but I put it there just so you could skip to if faster.

Thanks. I just couldn't remember if analog audio would be affected. I've dealt with enough of the bad integras to usually be able to diagnose one over the phone. But the video was still working (it's component) and that threw me off

We finally just gave up on everything onkyo and integra.

We gave up trying to get anything fixed, while it was obvious that most of the breakdowns were related to the hdmi board issue, only a handful were actually in the program. Of the few that were, the repaired units broke again. The process of pulling a bad unit/replacing with a loaner and subsequent return to onkyo, then reinstallation was just too time consuming. It was cheaper for us to eat the cost of replacement and get it done in one shot.

We no longer sell onkyo or integra.

I had a 40.2 do that once right out of the box. I defaulted it and it worked for a week or so. It turned out to be the DSP. DSP, HDMI, either way, it is time for a replacement on that dinosaur. :) Since it is all component, that likely means a few other new pieces as well. Nice time to refresh the whole system. Cha-ching!!! :)

I am thinking that an analog input using the DSP mode might still have no audio. An analog input running in the stereo mode, where the DSP board is not processing the signal, might still work.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The signal would have to go through the DSP board to be processed, as we expect; but for the signal to bypass processing, I think it would go through the board anyway but not be processed. It's probably not like a Tape Monitor button, where pushing a mechanical switch puts the REC OUT and MON jacks in series with the signal.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Denon? They had as many issues and Integra did. Cept Integra stood behind their issue in a more solid way.

Once a majority of the Denon range was moved from Japanese manufacturing to... Sherwood (yes, Sherwood) they have seen some issues. It's not as bad as the issues seen by Onkyo / Integra, but they're not squeeky clean.
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

The only issues Ive seen with Integra was the TI chipset (that several other manufacturers had issues with as well). Thats long gone. Integra is back in full swing and has been after that DISASTER.
