Actually it is a yearly fee per household, not per device. So currently it's £147 per year, which basically funds the BBC and all its programming be it radio tv news and live events.

Sorry, I thought it was per TV. I remember reading something on it once though, and what did stick in my memory, if you are legally blind, you get a 50% discount

Also a 50% discount on licensing your audio gear if you are deaf.
