When recently finishing a high end golf course project (that happens to be haunted), during finishing touches we weren't allowed to be seen by the owner or potential members that were visiting. We also weren't allowed to drive on property and had to walk and carry tools between buildings. We began referring to ourselves as Piss Boys

My favorite is cable guy. That's like calling a Thoracic surgeon a school nurse. Careful. There are a few smart cable guys that left this industry for good paying stable work with great benefits. This industry is full of a bunch of small businesses with big headed owners that want it all for themselves. I personally know some that will set most anyone here straight on networking and computers. I ask why are you doing cable. Of course his company used to have pc and network techs. Eliminated that and made them tech 4's doing service calls.

Red headed stepchild Have you read the actual story? It's by Langston Hughes. I don't know if it's the origin of the phrase, but it sure tells the story of it!

This seems to come up often. I still prefer A/V contractor. Home automation contractor is what I try to use most of the time. Even after almost 18 years in the industry I still get "oh, like the cable guy". Umm yeah. Just like the cable guy... Whatever, just sign the damn check.

As a crooked politician said in 'My Fellow Americans' when someone asked whose name should go on the check used as a bribe, "My best friends call me Mr Cash".

Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question... |
