I've never seen this type of issue before, but I thought I'd throw this out. Have a custy with a Samsung TV in their Living Room. It's connected to cable (via HDMI) and that's it. The only two source custy watches is cable TV and netflix (thru SmartHub). She claims that every day (at least once a day), she'll enter the smart hub, scroll over to Netflix (which brings up her name (and a smiley emoji) above the row of icons along the bottom of the TV, navigates up to her name, and presses select. From there, she gets a black screen. This (apparently) has happened Sun-today. I drove up to check it out. When I got there, it indeed did what she described. I asked to "take over" and shut everything down (we programmed an MX-780), then tried again. But THIS time, I selected the Netflix icon. Up came her smiley emoji (along with guest and kids). I selected her name, and get got the Netflix menu. I then exited out, and tried again. But this time navigated up to her name (just like she had done), and it worked there too.

I checked firmware (up to date), and I don't know what else to check. I told her to continue to do what she does (SmartHub, over to Netflix, up to her name, select). BUT... if it happens again, do it the way I did (SmartHub, over to Netflix, select, choose her name, select). If THAT doesn't work, scroll over to YouTube, and try to get in there. If THAT doesn't work, call me. I plan on calling her on Sat to check up, and possibly have an answer I got here from the pros.

Ideas?

I did have something weird on Netflix and a Sammy a while back. It'd just go blank and then jump back the the Directv hdmi input. Honestly don't remember what we did to fix it. I wasn't there for the return call. Try Goggling it and see what you can find.....

Ya this happens a lot with smart hub. Very common issue. Especially on tvs on the older evolution box the 2500. The 3500 resolves it. Also some turn off Samsung instant on and it resolves it. Or delete and reinstall the app.

You'll see a plethora of issues about it when you google it.

I take it one step further. Get her a TV that is not Samsung and never use a Samsung TV.

UPDATE: She was still having issues with Netflix thru Samsung.

After a short Google search, I found a guy who has a "fix" for now. He believes that once the user moves out of Netflix (to watch TV for instance), Netflix is STILL running in the background. Once the TV is shut off (actually, the TV is now in "sleep mode"), Netflix is STILL on. After a period of non-use, Netflix freezes up. To fix the problem, you COULD uninstall SmartHub (then reinstall everything again), OR just pull power for 15-30 seconds. Removing power clears Netflix and it starts without issue.

NOW.... I am looking for a way to "exit out of Netflix". He made mention of exiting out of Netflix before going onto a different source. I can't seem to find a way to do this. I tried "exit", I tried "left arrow" in navigation. Nothing seems to get the TV to ask: "Are you sure you wanna leave Netflix".

So my question is.... Does anyone know the secret handshake?

NEVER EVER EVER use built in streaming from devices, i dont care what brand or manufacturer you have. always use a dedicated streamer like Roku or even Apple TV.

I know no one has mentioned this yet, but don’t use built-in apps in TVs, use dedicated media player hooked to the TV.

I know this is a super old post... but four years later people (mainly friends who want to argue about it) and it drives me insane lol!!!
