It'll be interesting to see how this affects Samsung TV's (and by extension CI's). I very rarely recommend using a Smart TV's apps. Roku, ATV, Tivo offer a better experience.

If the OS is as bad as they say, I'd be concerned about the network security with any Samsung TV with Tizen.

Why single out the OS? "Samsung products suck!" Would be more appropriate and cover more ground. :)

Samsung had a great run there for a while when Apple was actually innovative. They had a great company to copy. Now that Apple sucks, Samsung has nothing good to steal so they suck too.

I think there should be a law against companies inventing new OS platforms! I jest of course but really, building a secure operating system is a huge undertaking. Given the fact that Android is free to use, Samsung really has no business inventing yet another OS just because of engineering egos and nationalism reasons. They simply lack the expertise and resources to compete in OS business.

It's also very easy to pay any "expert" to say exactly what you want them too. You can still find doctors and health experts that swear smoking is not that bad for you.

Not defending Samsung as I agree with amrim, don't re-invent the wheel and their stuff has started to suck really bad.

Apples' still great for the lemming masses, they've spent millions to dumb it down enough.

Saying Apple is for the masses is sort of silly, isn't it? With close to 90% Android market share, your comment almost makes no sense at all.

By definition, the masses use Android.

There are only so many ways to design a phone, so innovation has to come on the software side and the ability to play nice with other products. Apple has virtually perfected that with MacOS, iOS, WatchOS, and TVOS.

The google Play store is still the wild west with regards to malware and what they allow in, which is why I will never go back. I'll take less customization, better security, and an app store virtually free of malware infected apps any day.

Samsung makes some great phones with incredible specs, but in the end it is like having a luxury car with a really crappy engine. I had high hopes for Tizen, since Samsung has such a huge following, but apparently, it needs a lot of work.

I know this is not the first time I have heard this, and I don't mean to doubt your statement, but I wonder if that is a regional thing? In California where I live, my clients use Apple products, my friends use Apple products… I am certain that compared to the few android products I see, Apple is at least 8 to 1 and maybe 10 to one.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Ya almost every one I text uses iPhones. My current gf uses android. She's really the only non iMessage using person I can think of that I text. Hopefully I can convert her over to idevices soon lol. It's been so long since I've sent regular text messages over cellular network I forgot how annoying it is. Long texts get broken up into pieces on her end. Shit never delivers and I don't know it. Then all the iMessage stuff I can't do to androids. Most emojis don't even send right. In the message aspect I do wish Apple and android played nicer. An iMessage app for androids would be mint.

I never got the allure of upgrading to the newest phone, other than maybe for the camera or video recording quality.

When these developers create complex 3D games for iOS, they have to make them work at full speed for all phones, going back to the iPhone 5. So these ramped up RAM and processor speeds are sort of useless in the real world, other than to look good on paper vs the competition.

I am not sure how Android developers create their apps, but I am sure they don't take every super cheap phone processor available for all 200 brands when they make them, or all 200+ screen resolutions for that matter.

It's a hot mess.... hence all the fart apps with embedded malware.

One thing I've found kind of incredible about Samsung, thanks to the exploding cellphone batteries, media outlets skimmed over and people missed the exploding Samsung washing machines that really posed much more danger

Also, the google play store is a great place to have your credit card stolen because google lets the app developers process their own charges. So when you click buy on that $.99 fart app, some guy in a former soviet block country, where 90% of identity theft originates, gets your card info and billing address.

Talking about the North American market, the rest of the world is much smarter.

These arguments are so silly....

The reality is that most of high end clients that we sell love and appreciate the iPhone experience....

IMHO we should as well....to do any less makes us look like silly little gamer nerd boys in our clients eyes.

Smarter how? The only reason Android does so well worldwide is price. Price is the number one factor for many buyers in developing countries. When price is removed from the equation Apple beats everyone. The iPhone outsells all of the Android phones that are priced comparatively to it.

The fact is Android is not as secure and does not provide a consistent user experience. The fact that most Android devices do not receive timely security updates is a huge problem. This problem is amplified by the number of cheap devices that various manufacturers pump out and never update leaving the users vulnerable to attack. That iOS is less customizable is only a complaint you will hear from geeks. The customization options in Android are actually a problem for most people. There are so many options that people get overwhelmed and confused and the lack of consistency leads to frustration. This is what I have observed watching normal people use Android phones.

Normal people want a phone that just works. They don't want to fiddle around with things and tweak this and that. They just want to be able to take good photos and use their favorite apps. I was an Android user for years and I was totally anti Apple. I wanted to tweak every last bit of the OS and the UI and have everything exactly where I wanted it. I have come around completely since buying an iPhone 6. You can call me an Apple fanboy but iOS is simply a better experience in just about every respect and the more I hear about the security advantages of iOS and the deficiencies of Android the more I like my iPhone.

Samsung adds a whole other dimension of terrible. I am not surprised that the research shows glaring flaws. Samsung software is terrible. Their implantation of Android is terrible. I had two Samsung phones in the past and they were definitely the most buggy Android phones I ever owned. I had to install custom ROMS just to make them someone more palatable. My dad ignored my advice to buy an iPhone and bought a Galaxy S6. He HATES it. It is buggy as hell. It reboots itself. The interface is kludgy. The icons move themselves around. It is laggy as hell. The thing is just a buggy mess.

I only know one person that is a hardcore Android guy and he is a geek. He has a Pixel and likes it but he even admits that my iPhone 7 Plus is more refined and operates smoother without the need to be regularly rebooted.

Complete opposite of you. I was with Apple for a number of years, went to Android and at first it was buggy but updates fixed that. That was a Samsung phone. Upgraded to a Note7 when I cracked the screen on my old phone and loved the Note. Best phone I ever had. Well we know what happened there. I replaced it with an iPhone7 and it was buggy as hell. Kept locking up. Touch screen kept locking up. One day the phone froze and would. It shut off even with a hard reset attempt of holding the power and home button for 30 seconds. It just was completely frozen. The phone felt cheap, had flex in it actually. Icons looked bleh, it performed slower than the Note. I ended up with a Galaxy S7 Edge which I am mostly happy with. If I didn't have the Note first I would love this phone, but believe the Note was superior to the S7 in every way.
