The new CCR routers no longer have switch chips. We normally set up ports 3&4 on the lan, with port 4 as a slave to port 3. You can't do this any more due to the fact there is no built in switch chip. The only option, I believe, is to bridge the ports together. For those of you who use MikroTik, is bridging the only option, and how much of a hit to performance is there by bridging?

You can still do this with the CRS line. That's what we typically use. Sorry, haven't used any of the CCR products yet.

The bridge uses the CPU, but minimally. Unless you're doing heavy CPU intensive tasks like IPSec or something, it won't matter much or at all.

I can't speak for Mikrotik, but on the Ubnt routers when you bridge (br0) the lan ports, your performance falls to ~100 mbit. From Ubnt themselves: "Generally, we do not recommend bridging ports on routers, as it will reduce the overall throughput compared to non-bridged configuration"
