This would be great.

Until you have a cold and the system doesn't understand a damn thing you say.

You're already feeling like crap, and then since you can't turn the lights on to see where that pile of remotes is stashed in case of emergency, you trip over the dog, fall down the stairs and break both legs.

The upside?

You can scream "Help, I've fallen and can't get up!". Although that system can' t understand you either, so you'll die with the dog peeing on you in revenge....

Logitech harmony and total control with Alexa is superb. Comcast remote you have to say CNN then select cnn. Harmony just say turn on CNN and then sneakily program it to turn on FOX!!! Works vice versa as well

Speaking of Alexis understanding, what is the general range?
How about with background noise?
What if it's a 15,000 sq.ft. house?

Just curious.

Put one of those walkie talkies with 16 mile range next to the unit.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I can't speak to Alexa's ultimate range (sorry, I couldn't resist that), but it obviously depends on conditions. I've been very impressed with her ability to work with colds, "frog" in throat, and such. I'm not sure how she reacts to drunks -- that would be FINS area of expertise. As far as 15,000 sq ft coverage is concerned, you can use multiple units and multiple Dots would be cheaper than a gaggle of walkie talkies. In theory multiple Alexa's can triangulate your position in a room.

Not a fan of voice control. Perhaps just controlling your significant other when that moment strikes. Oh ya that's it, don't stop. Does it really work? When I have the music very loud it is able to lower volume or change music by voice control? Every expensive droid and apple device I my own home sucks at simple voice commands.
Maybe it's me. But talking to a device bothers me. Just like people with Bluetooth ear pieces walking around talking. And selfie sticks.

I added an Echo Dot to my URC system at home.  It works great so long as the dog isn't barking or other people aren't speaking in the room.  I like to use it to turn off the downstairs AV and lights as I'm walking up to bed.

It would be nice if it could hear me over the dog barking.  I'd like to use it to bring up the cameras on the TV when I hear him barking, but usually it can't distinguish my voice from his barking.

maybe i can program his barking into the system as a command.  :)

So far not a fan of voice. I have to use it to control my G4 ATV to bring up subtitles. Which means I have to keep the little ATV remote on the table. :(

I spent $$$ on a nice remote so I could have just one.

Because of this we talk down ATV, (and Apple in general) and off other solutions.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

i use the crap out of voice control. its VERY convenient and easy. isnt that what we sell?

EVERY day, multiple commands. Of course, it wont replace the remote and that is often MORE convenient. But, controlling lights, HVAC, security, anything is just a breeze by voice. Starting directv before you sit down and pick up the remote, its GREAT. Setting alarm as you go to be, NICE. TUrning off all the lights, SUPERB. I having a hard time wrapping my head around those that get the convenience voice control offers. I have 9 echos and need about 3 or 4 more. An outdoor one would be nice!

If somene has falling and cant get up, its simple. Program the system to do whatever you want it to do. Perhaps play a funeral song.

How did you integrate it with your URC system? Which URC do you have?

I would love to be upstairs and tell Alexa, turn on Home Theater and have everything start firing up.

He used Total Control. URC released their Alexa integration last month (or maybe the month before).
