A client has about a six month old Sony UHP-H1 which has locked up for the second time. The OFF light is blinking and it won't power on or otherwise change with remote control commands.

There's nothing at all about this in the manual. Have you heard of this problem? I "solved" it last time by removing it from the power for a short period of time.

Thanks.

Not on Sony, but from what I've seen, this is a common problem with blurry players in general. I found with Samsung it usually happens when someone leaves it in the smart/streaming options instead of exiting to the main menu.

Yes. They will completely destroy the entire network at times. Power cycling fixes it. It has happened 2 or 3 times in different projects. Annoying for sure.

blurry players

PRICELESS!

Now, that's interesting. We use the BD Player for streaming. Gotta be sure it's in the DVD mode upon shutdown, even though it's a different brand.

Thank you.

I changed that to bluray 3 times but spellcheck still made it blurry.

I have a BDP S6200 and it exhibits the same lock up issues. Not connected to any control system. I've seen this on one other player as well.

I have had this happen twice now. Not sure what it does to crash the entire network, but it does a bang up job of it.

When it "crashes the network," does the network go away until the Sony is power cycled? I mean, does it cause an emergency service call?

We've had problems with the Doorbird on that system not making connections, but it hasn't been long-term. I'd like to know whether the Sony might be messing with the Doorbird on a short term basis, like maybe a half hour.

Yes. Emergency! No internet, nothing. I power cycled modem, router, all switches, access points, etc. to no avail. Then I started unplugging things from the network switch. As soon as I pulled the network cable for the Blu-ray player, everything almost immediately began working again. Plugged the cable back in, down goes there network. Power cycle Blu-ray player, no problems in nearly a year. No idea how or why. But it has happened a few times on different projects with all different network gear, etc.

Consider the average blu-ray player.
Laser, motor, power supply, box, remote, nic card, wireless card, streaming CPU, HDMI video, CD Player, DVD Player, Blu-ray Player, media player, usb player; all for a $100. It's a wonder they work at all.

Bluray players in general I think lockup once in awhile and need resetting. This is just par for course. Even the OPPO's I've sold have locked up once in awhile and needed power cycled.

Never seen any Sony I've sold take down a network before. That's a new one to hear.
And I've only had a few Sony's actually die before. One under warranty, the others many years after install.
I recently upgraded a client that had some old Sony BDP-S300 I sold 10 years ago. All 3 were still working fine - man those things are slow compared to today however :)

I have actually had this problem with Sonys. A couple of model years (2-3) ago. I had 3 different customers that occasionally (once per week) if they shut the bluray off while on a streaming source it would brick the unit and nothing short of unplugging the power would bring it back to life. All 3 instances Sony replaced the bluray with newer model and problem was fixed. Never had one take down the network though.

Just looked up the guilty model number BDP-6200 was the model locking up
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

Someone else reported this with a Sony. Fortunately there's a button on the remote that will, as programmed, return the unit to the "Play Blu-ray" mode. Next time I'm out there I'll give that a shot.

Thanks for the observations.
