Why do we have to be so coy. What is the four letter V company so we can check it out?

I was wondering about that also, I'm not sure why it's supposed to be a secret. I guess it might be Vo**. I guess it's because they sell direct, but they also have private dealer pricing so I'm not sure what makes them different from 99% of other companies. Any DIYer is going to find them via google on the first or second page.

So how does one "learn" good landscape lighting? It seems many don't know, including the landscape hackjobs around these parts.

There is this group: http://www.aolponline.org/

They can provide training, but quite frankly buy some fixtures and spend some time placing them and rearranging them around your own home at night can be as beneficial as anything. Also knowing how certain plants grow so you don't put an uplight behind a plant that will completely cover it when Spring comes is also very helpful.

Also, this is not one size fits all. What one homeowner may love, another will hate. So you need to really listen. I had one lady call me wanting X, but after talking to her, she decided she wanted Y.

Landscape lighting is painting with light. Do a system at your own house or a relatives house for cost and play around with it.
You can check out the AOLP website and see if you can find resources.
There's also trainings but most of the free ones are the b.s trainings given by irrigation or landscape distributors to get their guys to buy product, though if you're starting from scratch it may be worth it to go to one and see if you gain anything.

You can check manufacturers websites for trainings in your area.
Some listed below.
Also, I dont know about the others but Kichler does trainings at the HQ in ohio.
