The system I'm dealing with is the first one I've worked on that has a PS4. The client leaves equipment on all the time despite the nice OFF button on the MX-990. The system is in an enclosed cabinet and it's about 120 degrees F in there. I need to increase the ventilation (now have an Active Thermal System 2). I'll do that, but I also need to add PS4 Power On and Power Off commands or macros to the remote because the PS4 seems to be the warmest thing in there.

Without writing six paragraphs, let me say that, when looking through the URC database and online instructions as to how to turn the power off and on, I don't see all the elements I'll need to do this. Has anyone made this work?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

With an IR to BT adapter you used to be to control the PS3. Don't know if they work on the PS4. Sad thing is Harmony is releasing a module for the PS4 this month that will work with their remotes.

Nothing exists like that for the PS4.

The harmony piece is very frustrating. Makes no sense why Sony is doing this and limits control.

Frustrating? Maybe it's awesome and just what we've been waiting for. It says it's an IR receiver. I'm thinking it works like the one for the PS3 did. Connects to the PS via BT and then you add it as a device to your remote and control it with IR. I guess we'll see.

Why does Sony not add IR to these things? I remember the first ps3 was routed by Sony as your all in one media player. With no native way to control it, it will never be what they claimed it would be.

EXACTLY!
If this thing is actually an IR receiver, then Harmony must have created or found some IR commands to send to it. What's the least expensive Harmony remote that we'd have to buy to make this work? We get one of those, learn the commands, and put them into our command databases for use in the remote brands that we use.

(Did something get lost? I swear I wrote and posted that yesterday!)

Prior PS3 controls (including the Harmony adapter) were IR to Bluetooth adapters (unless they couldn't control power, in which case they were likely IR to USB). If this takes IR commands, then it's likely going to Bluetooth again - the difficulty being no compatible Sony media remote to reverse engineer for the commands. So either Logitech managed to figure out the new hidden media commands, or they convinced Sony to add them. Or, it's going to be super limited (no more than a game pad could do).

Remember, Harmony also has native Sonos control. They may have built in BT or IP on this thing and got Sony to only give them the codes.

This isn't a Harmony product, it's a 3rd party, PDP, that also makes a BT PS4 handheld remote. This just converts IR commands to BT. If they're in the Harmony database, any remote should be able to do the same.

One detail about the IR codes: The IR commands don't have to be made or supplied by Sony at all.

IR codes have to be in the Harmony remotes that make "the device" spit out the proper Sony Bluetooth commands when it receives one of those IR commands.

But Power? If a bluetooth command for Power did not exist before, it has to exist now (unless they've found some other way to turn power on and off). And the IR code for it has nothing to do with Sony; it'd just be whatever it takes to make "the device" emit the proper Bluetooth command.

(By the way, I call it "the device" because it's a bit cumbersome to call it what they call it at amazon, "PDP PlayStation 4 IR Receiver For Logitech Harmony Remote Control Devices by PDP." How about a model number, guys?)

Wondering why I haven't heard about my purchase of this item yet (to ship on March 31), I checked at amazon. Release date is expected to be July 1 2017.

You'd think if they were going to lie to us that they'd take the psychological advantage of promising to release it on June 30 instead of July 1 -- hey, a whole month earlier!

The PS3 adaptor didn't have power. It had the PS3 button which was missing from the cheaper USB devices. You had to create a macro, PS3 held for two seconds,X,X. I haven't investigated but the PS4 no doubt has something similar, or maybe it will have power this time!
