The only TV base I have ever bought was for my fiancée's tv and that was because I couldn't stand the TV sound....

I have never had a client request one or need one.

You just wanted to say "my fiancee" in public. Seems kind of real now doesn't it?

So this would be the new Sonos product that the company did not tell its dealers about even one hour before the general public? Hard to believe right?

They shouldn't tell their dealers about it before general launch. They are not a dealer-driven brand. They haven't been for years. We service a tiny, wealthy sliver of the population, Sonos is selling to everyone that has enough extra cash to afford a speaker system.

Regardless of who they "cater to". If you have a dealer base, of any size, you should release the info and specs to them well before it is released to the public.

Virtually all of the TV's that we encounter are hung on the wall and this sort of product does not make sense for us.

As of this writing, we have not been notified through any official channel that this product exists. Maybe it is intended for direct sales or sales through the BIG stores.

It's a little different for me because Sonos is a local company, but Sonos did invite a number of custom integrators for a tour of their R&D facility last year.

We got to see and hear the new Playbase and had the opportunity to offer feedback and suggestions not just on the Playbase, but on products in general.

The Playbase sounds good by itself (similar to Playbar, but with better bass due to the larger woofer), but it's really impressive with the Sonos Sub and Play 1s added for surround sound.

I'm focused on custom work, so not sure it it's something I'll ever sell, but it's one of the better sounding powered speaker systems I've heard and when paired with Sonos Sub and Play Unit surrounds, the experience competes with a mid-level AVR/5.1 Surround Sound installation.

Dealers that did see the Playbase were under NDA not to disclose any information until product launch.

So that works with old flat TV bases.... what about newer sets with legs left and right, presumably outside the width of the speaker? Is it obsolete at launch?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

This is not necessarily true. Sonos serves a slightly bigger slice of the population still pretty small. And make no mistake if their dealer business went away tomorrow they would be in deep kimchi...If it wasnt so, they wouldn't pretend to respect us.

Sweet! I am doing the math now. A nice Salamander AV cabinet is pretty spendy....much more than a wall mount. I guess I better start selling more Salamander and Playbase systems. Much less "work" for me, and the margin on the Salamander products is nice. :)

This is for the people in rentals who call us up and get upset that we will not come in and do a full on retro surround sound system without written consent from their landlord to cut holes all over and install things on or in the wall/ceiling. :)

Definitely not what most of us were hoping for from SONOS, but they know the data. Most TVs are NOT mounted on the wall. So we are a minority. I guess we better start blaming Trump and looting. :)

To a company like Sonos, doing that would be creating thousands of potential leaks of the product prior to launch, as well as canibalizing sales of the current Playbar while salespeople told their clients to wait for this product. The "dealer base" of integrators isn't their core customer. The mass market of humans that can scratch together a few hundred bucks is...
