I have much to contribute, but will start with this.

Having lunch a fine fast sub of they day establishment
A sign says whenever and wherever possible, we're removing artificial preservatives, flavors and colors from artificial sources. HTF do you do this and what are you left with?

Why not just remove the artificial sources? Seems silly to remove artificial preservatives, flavors and colors from an artificial source...especially if your goal is to remove artificial things from your food.

Fresher cold ingredients kept in their optimal conditions and fresh bread- some veggies can be rinsed with water that has citrous juice (usually Lemon) or vinegar will prevent browning and wilting. As far as coloring, fresh food looks fine- they should condition people to accept the natural look but being America, we expect too much.

Have some water without additives?

That's pretty much all they'll have left after this cleansing.

Arsenic is an element, but that doesn't make it a good ingredient.

I often think of this and sometimes mention it when I hear someone tout a thing because "it's natural" or "it's organic."
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Last week I was listening to a radio show on XM and this one guest (he's a comedian) was dead serious and asked the others on the show "did you know semen is not on the periodic chart? Isn't it the basic thing we are all made from?"

Not only is it organic, but it's misunderstood. Literally tens of millions of people who have died of malaria could have been saved by its continued use. This is an example of the perfect (zero negative effects from DDT) being the enemy of the good (millions of actual human beings not suffering and dying from malaria).

I've also read before that DDT wasn't what actually caused eagle eggs to be thin. Not sure if that was correct or not.

Because, science is sciencey and it's hard to understand.

Good thing he's a comedian, rather than a member of Cong.....oh, right- we already have a comedian in Congress. I recently saw comments about him being our next Democratic running mate for Vice President and even POTUS. If that jag is elected, I'm outta here.

It wasn't just Eagles, it was any birds that ingested it in water or anything else but the real culprit was a compound, due to the loss of Hydrogen Chloride from DDT, that made the eggs thin. California Condors almost became extinct because of it and now, that handsome raptor's numbers have risen to almost 400 birds. They were extinct in the wild and only 27 birds were alive in captivity. It was pretty damn cool to see them soaring while I hiked in and out of the Grand Canyon.

highfigh,
Part of what you say is true and is the reason why the articles that I referred you to speak of using it carefully and specifically to kill sources of malaria.

A problem is, especially in the US, that because science is complicated, people who have a poison that will control something have no sense that will tell them not to use double the dose for a better result. Careful is often not present when a stronger result is desired.

After writing the above, I looked further and found this at [Link: thenewatlantis.com]. The New Atlantis's sub-banner says A JOURNAL OF TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE.

Published in September 1962, Silent Spring was a phenomenal success. As a literary work, it was a masterpiece, and as such, received rave reviews everywhere. Deeply moved by Carson’s poignant depiction of a lifeless future, millions of well-meaning people rallied to her banner. Virtually at a stroke, environmentalism grew from a narrow aristocratic cult into a crusading liberal mass movement.

While excellent literature, however, Silent Spring was very poor science. Carson claimed that DDT was threatening many avian species with imminent extinction. Her evidence for this, however, was anecdotal and unfounded. In fact, during the period of widespread DDT use preceding the publication of Silent Spring, bird populations in the United States increased significantly, probably as a result of the pesticide’s suppression of their insect disease vectors and parasites.

That article continues....
