Just finishing up an install with two XBR930D's and would like to control them with ip or 232 if ip isn't an option.
It'll be going into a Total Control system, in case someone has a driver to try.

+1

My entire systems now are designed around IP, with only the cable boxes being IR

The Sony protocol is dead easy and documented. You shouldn't have too much problem doing it.

Ok, Thanks.
The other potential issue that some people are saying that some Sony TV's are locking up or stopping to be IP controlled after a few days using IP. Just wondering what models are doing this? I don't want to screw up two new TV's

I do Sony's via IP exclusively. I have had a problem on a few 55X850D's where they would lock up, but even the factory Sony remote wouldn't work. Apparently there was a wonky Firmware update that caused this problem.

I am controlling 4 Sony TV's, mix of 850 and 930, and one 2000ES AVR all IP in our showroom with no problems. It turns on every day for the past year every time.

Get the Dash Sony IP Driver though.

Savant has virtually no issues with the SONY XBR driver. RTI is model dependent and relies on a boatload of settings that need to be configured properly to work. RTI tends to be more sensitive to the firmware changes, for some reason.

I did a 65X930D with a C4 system. The system also has a 43X830C. I put in the latest IP driver, updated both TVs, and went about my business.

I got a call the next day saying they could not control Netflix. I went out and sure enough, the only IP commands that were working seemed to be power on/off and input commands. It would even pull up the Netflix app. I just did not have any menu, cursor or transport controls. If I re-identified in composer, it would start working again, but not for long. I tried multiple drivers from the database, including the 850C and 850D drivers, as well as the 930D driver. No go on all of them.

I called tech support on my way home after changing both to IR, and they wanted me to call in while on site so they could log in and see what the driver was doing. I never got around to it, and they are working fine with IR.

Still not sure WTF is going on with that. I have several other Sony IP drivers out there. One is on an older 4K set which is on wi-fi and has not had an issue since day one.

You guys that are experiencing lock up issues are these wired or wireless? I have found that the latest sony tvs cannot be wireless and IP controlled reliably... Hardwired they are bullet proof.

I also have found the EA1 to be a bit buggy with some IP commands. EA3/5 are almost bulletproof. anyone else experienced this?

No problems whatsoever with IP control via Elan. There was an issue where the commands were caching and causing sluggish performance, but it never seemed to affect any of my installs.

These are the only 2 I have had problems with and they are wired and an EA3 is the controller. I have one older model on Wi-Fi that has been rock solid for over 2 years.
