From the other forum:
1) System needs to have a CD transport, so customer can just drop discs in and it will automatically burn them in. He indicated customer is very technology & computer illiterate.
2) Must have on screen 'TV' GUI.
3) Price is a concern.

Back in the day, Escient and Request were the 2 companies for this market.

Today, there is nothing I know of on the market that does this. If you do away with the requirement for TV output (buy a cheap Android tablet, dedicated to just the music server); then there is: Bluesound Vault 2. It has a 2TB drive and a CD transport to rip with. Also streaming services.
You can also get Bluesound Nodes to put around the house to stream from the Vault or services.

1), 2) and 3) make it seem that the customer needs a laptop with some kind of media management program. iTunes with Remote for an iPhone or iPad. If they want, they could use an AppleTV with iTunes installed on a laptop or tablet. Set it up with an external HD with iTunes loaded on it and it solves the problem of always needing to connect the laptop to the external drive to add music.

Number 1 is the hard part to have built in nowadays
I just use thier computer and iTunes. Point the rip directory to the music server. Set it for automatic ripping upon a cd being inserted and it's pretty easy for even the non techy

Sounds like he needs a single disc CD player with big easy to read buttons. If he wants super easy and dead reliable, Kscape.

My experience has been that the technically shy want to keep the CD player because it is familiar technology. Really, it's just a security blanket. We sell Sonos and the customer insists that they need a CD player too, but other than kicking the tires on day one to make absolutely sure that the CD player still works, that is the last time that the CD player is used.

We are going through this with a customer as we speak. He wants a multi-disc player and they are becoming harder and harder to find. I hope that we can talk him out of the CD player, but it is 50/50 that we will succeed. Handling the CD's is important to him because he has been collecting for decades and has signed memorabilia. While digital storage would be much more convenient, lack of touch is an issue.

This is why vinyl has not died. It is an experience. A ritual. A rite. Same with CDs. I would not try to talk anyone out of a CD player or phonograph. It is rare to find those customers anymore.

Actually, the OSD would be the hard part.

Bluesound, Fusion, KScape, K1 and Im sure many more have ripping ability. Getting it out to a TV with IR control is the difficult part.

the Bluesound acts just like a NAS drive on the Network. Adding a Control4 EA Processor to that and you could add the OSD this guy wants AND update his control system at the same time.

I have a Kscape Cinema one that has music if you want a dealer. It works great just doesn't get used all that much.
