Need to get a server for a client who has a bunch of CD's. However we need to be able to navigate using an onscreen gui since thisis an older RTI system without 2 way.

Kscape is out of the question due to pricing. I cant really think of any other that might have a GUI...???

Does he already have an automation system (beyond the RTI remotes I mean)? Our CQC system allows you to browse your media on screen, make selections, get preview metadata, and of course start up playback and control it and whatnot.

Upgrade RTI remotes to a Control4 system. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

I think that it is time to update the remote, or be prepared to introduce a second remote for navigating the library.

AV Receiver with server capability? I use an Elite SC-79 with a server and it works well. Not the most intuitive search functions but it works, You might check other brands.

Autonomic MMS-1E might be a good choice. It has an HDMI output but I think its missing IR control. You might have to go RS-232 for the transport and navigation functions to control it.

ReQuest F3 - only has VGA out but any of the VGA / YUV - HDMI convertors will get you where you need to be.
Totally dumb that it doesn't have an HDMI port but it is part of an IP ecosystem where the media players carry the HDMI port.
Thank you for your considered response

Maybe you should stick to moderating.

Are you looking for a device to store the music, or a device that can connect to a hard drive and show what's playing, what's in the hard drive, etc? Is this gui needed for a hand-held device, or a TV? If it's going to be controlled and viewed on a hand-held, any of the streaming boxes will work (Sonos, MusicCast, HEOS, etc). I'm looking for a good way to replace a Request server (company changed hands, bad communication, it's ten years old and not supported...), so I copied some music from the Request to a thumb drive and stuck it in the USB port of my MusicCast- doesn't need any kind of music player and in fact, it doesn't work if one resides on the drive. In the case of the Request I located the music files, right clicked on the folders and copied them before pasting. If cover artwork was associated with the file, it shows up on my iPhone.

In the case of the Request, the cover art was found by the server program, but it saves the files with this. If you use iTunes and save the music as .wav files, it should work the same way since they can be copied to WMP or other music
players.

If the RTi is old, why not look at one of their IP controlled hubs?

"Client has a bunch of CD's"

"On Screen GUI"

"Kscape is out of question"

Ok so do you need a CD solution or are you ripping the CD's and you need a digital music file solution?

If you need a digital music file solution i have a low budget option that might work for you. iPod plus AVReceiver with iPod port.

You plug the iPod into the provided cable and you can then navigate your iPod onscreen with your AVR's remote control...or your universal remote/touch panel of choice that has your AVR's commands on it.
