First, I swear, Im stone cold sober. Im on a long term project where the property is an old plantation. One of the owners is always talking about the old house and other old buildings are haunted. Some of the staff and I had chalked his experiences up to the nightly scotch intake.

In the back of the old house, off the kitchen, is a room that was converted to an office. I went in that office this morning and was talking to the head chef. On the other end of the kitchen is a heavy commercial style swinging door. I realized I heard the door open, then swinging back and forth a few times as it slowed to a stop. I walked through the whole house to see who else had come in, and there wasnt anyone in the whole place.

Someone was leaving, and not coming, which is why you could not find anyone. That is the most obvious explanation.

Other than that, then yes, you most certainly encountered a ghost.

It could also be solar flares, water weight, fireballs, Russian spy ships, alien travelers, etc. Lots of new theories out there recently.

Are you sure they weren't hiding and laughing?

If this door can be opened all the way and it should stay there, it's likely that the mechanism is gummed up or worn, so it doesn't stay in that position for long.

The door is never left in the open position. It was closed when I walked in. It's one that swings both directions like in a commercial kitchen. Something had to push it open for it to close itself. I know everyone on staff who was where. There was. I place for someone to hide, and with the old floors, you hear if anyone is walking around.

I keep thinking, there has to have been someone else there I missed, but what gets me is that i should have found them somewhere.

Im going to start blaming all the issues on this job on the old woman. "Hey, it was working fine when I finished. Mary has been f***ing with it"

Someone else was inside. The door was closed. They pushed it so they could leave. You missed that someone was not where you thought they were. There was no noise from them walking around because they had left, not entered.

I keep thinking, there has to have been someone else there I missed, but what gets me is that i should have found them somewhere.

Unless they exited, in which case you should have found them somewhere else. Did you look everywhere outside the room too?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The house isn't that big. There is a center foyer/entrance with a big double staircase. And the exterior doors are old and make a lot of noise being opened. The stairs make a lot of noise if you go up them. From that main hall, you can see him into every room of the house.

Logic says yes, someone else was in the house. But logic also says that moving at a normal pace, I should have saw them. Or if they were moving at a fast pace, they should have made noise.

Ghost of HDMI past?

reminds me of a time i was pre-wiring an house that previously had an old farmhouse demolished. it was late in the summertime, right at dusk when i heard someone dragging my hammer. It was at the back corner of the room (i knew it was, swore it was because i had to go over to pick it up when i was done straightening cables out.

as i had my back turned i herd the unmistakable sound of hammer being dragged along OSB, but quickly. It was 2 feet away from me.

I dont think I ever finished something up so quickly, grabbed my bag and ran into my truck and hitailed it out of their. I had heard other contractors saying they were finding their tools scattered around the jobsite and even some brought outside in the dirt. Always chalked it up to some hoologans messing with them but to this day I cant explain it.....the only thing i can think of is when i was pulling the wires and straightening them up it caught the hammer and when i jumped when I heard it i whipped the cables away....

who the eff knows.

I was joking around and mentioned it to the GC's foreman. I learned that one of the painters swears he saw a woman in a white dress in the hallway that the swinging door goes into. And back last summer when the outside temperature was in the high 90's, one worker went in one of the small houses next to the main house, and it was like walking into air conditioning. No electricity was on for that building.

It was much easier to discount when the stories all came from someone having a few drinks before bed.

Where are you working Fins? Can you share the name of the plantation?
I played (in a band) at a wedding rehearsal party at Middleton Place back in the '80's. Got yelled at for moving a brick in a pile of rubble from the "old" house while trying to get to an electrical outlet. The place was beautifully decorated with candles light the terraces down to the river. A big problem with grounding started as the humidity rose after dark. I got a split lip from touching a mic while playing guitar. Ouch!!!
They call me the "Thread Killer". Just watch!

Heck, why not. The place was the set in the movie Something to Talk About. If you scroll down to the pictures of the building with the brick fireplace and all the smoke marks on the brick (it was the old kitchen), this is the only building Sherman didn't burn because it was being used as a hospital.

I remember when younger. Had some home grown and was at the local convenience store. Grabbed my Mountain Dew, in the tall 16oz returnable bottle. Went to the candy isle for my chick-o-stick. I look up and see all the cooler doors opening and closing on their own. Look at the cashier and he is laughing. It was great and I think you were doing something you failed to tell us.

Fins, I believe you. Especially after having lived in a haunted place for 5 years.
