I am getting an ever increasing amount of telemarketing old calls on my cell phone. I am and have been registered on the national do not call list for years, but it does not matter. Is there anything that can be done to decrease this short of changing my number? My business runs through this number so that is not really a feasible thing to do. Yesterday, as an example, I got 4 calls from AT&T trying to sign me up. Today, AT&T has already called once.

Cold calls is a sure fired way to ensure that I will NEVER sign up for services. If you are a scammer, you will get nothing as I said, I will never sign up for anything through cold calls, EVER!!!

I know on Apple iPhones you can block all the numbers coming in one at a time, if their "Unknown", then they can't be blocked. Blocked numbers can still leave a voice mail, they just wouldn't know that their call was "blocked". When a VM is left from a blocked caller. It's placed in a folder labeled "Blocked Callers" but will still take up your allotted VM space. So be sure to listen and/or delete.

I am having an unknown caller right now, of course they don't leave a VM so I don't know who it is. I am testing out a way to see if I can block those by making a contact labeled "Unknown" and see what happens. Currently I made it a different ring tone from other callers. So I am hoping that it will work, if it does. I'll make that contact Blocked. Hopefully that will work and I don't have to be bothered by them. This of course could block other legit people with an Unknown number, but I'm willing to take that chance. As a business, that's up to you. I will update though to see if my process works.

Android can block as well, but I don't know the process.

Years back with Verizon Wireless, you could sign into your account and add some numbers to a blocking list. However, you were limited to the amount of numbers you can put on the list. And they would be taken off of the list after 90 days. But could be added back on after the 90 days if need be. Whether VZW still does it or any other company, I don't know.

VZW only allows blocking of 5 numbers on a temp basis, and that is useless.

All I do now is not answer if the caller isn't identified, or I don't know the number. I figure if it's someone that really wants to talk to me, they will leave a message.

Think I'll change my message to:

I am not answering calls due to spam calls. If you want to talk to me, leave a message.

Do that along with a specific ring tone for everyone you know, and a silly ring tone for everything else.

Won't stop the calls, since there doesn't seem to be any way to stop them, but it can lessen the PIA factor.

I have been using a google voice number for years. I give this number out to every business/account. It forwards to my cell phone where i can screen calls. You get a "call from_________ press 1 to answer". This lets me know if its a real person (who would leave their name) or a robo call.

Every time i get a spam call i login to google voice and block the caller. When they call they get a "disconnected" message. I used to get calls all day long and now nothing makes its way through.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I am not getting ATT calls, but credit card score/ report recordings at an ever increasing rate. Most are using fake numbers. Not sure what can be done about it other than blocking that number. There is no way to prove "who" is calling to report them.
I would love for some hacker group to expose them and all that work at these operations.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Since more and more users are ditching their landlines, what other option does a poor telemarketer have?

I'll put the spam caller (robo or human) on hold and let them spew their message into hold -- the theory being that this will waste a little of their time and dent their productivity a bit. Hopefully, more and more victims will do this and the cold calling scheme will become less attractive. There is a risk, however, because my number might then be flagged for "interest," because I listened to the call, and the number will be dumped into a "recall" list.

Lately, I've been getting calls from "your computer support center". They have noticed that my computer has a problem, is causing trouble on the Internet, and it must be fixed NOW. I am ordered to go to my computer, NOW. (good luck with that) If I have a few minutes or I'm in the mood to be mean to someone, I'll ask them to give me my IP address. They always chafe at this. In many cases I'm not convinced that the person knows what this means, but one guy (I recognize his voice) has been through this before and will spout off an address that is on the wrong subnet. I'm not sure what they are selling. I assume that they want to take control of the computer, scan it, and they'll discover some "threat" that must be fixed for a fee or they'll simply deliver a malware payload.

I have the same problem. The number has raised substantially as of late. I had fun with one of them that kept calling by answering, "Redmond police department." The idiot caller went on with her script until I said, "Mam, this is the police department." She apologized and hung up :).

It is very easy to block numbers in Android and you just do it in the phone app. Alas, they use many numbers so other than a few companies that keep using the same number, it is not very effective. And yes the Verizon method is a joke.

Mentioned in this thread but to be clearer...

iPhone and Android phones have the ability to block calls regardless of what carrier you are using. So the verizon 5 blocked callers thing is dead technology/policy that isn't relevant if you are using a smartphone.

I've seen about one minute of the TV show "Veep," and in that minute the Veep said "every time I see him I hear circus music." Let me suggest that! The cliche circus music is "Entry of the Gladiators." That's my ringtone for one particular idiot client.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Blocking callers is of no use. While you may weed out some, they will just call from a different number. Most of these calls come from spoofed numbers that even if you call right back go to a dead line.

I remember you asking about other carriers that will work in SW CT. I believe you're on VZW. My point is the fact that my g/f's sister took her off of my VZW. She still has the same phone number that she has had for the last 5 plus years. Since she's jumped ship to Sprint, she has been receiving multiple calls a day from spam. She doesn't answer them, unless she knows the number, and of course they don't leave a message.

My only thought is because people have reported to VZW of spam phone numbers. And they just block those numbers on the backend.

7762 is VZW spam reporting line. I know this works with texting, but not sure about calling numbers though.

I answer all when I have time. Love to screw with them. Inform them how glad you are they called back to claim their free cruise tickets. You get the rest. I like the police dept. one.

Tell them you want to be on the Do Not Call list and they're required to stop calling.

For anyone else ho doesn't hav the number or address, (888) 382-1222 or online at www.donotcall.gov. I think it may have a limited time for stopping calls.
