I have a PIR about 60 feet from my keypad and it works. Also with the power series, you can program it from a PC or from the keypad. The PowerSeries uses the Teleguard app, no alarm.com. You can also integrate into almost all major control systems. The 2-way feedback is great.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Elk.

HAI/Leviton has always been ROCK solid for us. Pricey, but NEVER fails. They have flush mount kits for keypads as well. Full control via third party as well.

Easy set up with Dealer PC Access software.

But, youre going to pay 4 something just for the panel, Omni LTe.

I have used HAI since forever and I am also about to install a new security system in my home. From what I have heard, HAI Omni is not going anywhere and support is limited. Can anyone confirm this because this was always rock solid for me hard wired and wireless

I think Elk has done a superb job balancing support for pro installers and DIYers. They don't advertise for the DIY market.

I wrote about and recently installed a DIY system from relative start-up Abode. They have the required features for a UL rating for security (e.g., back-up battery, etc.), optional pay-as-you-go professional monitoring, cellular back-up.

The hub has z-wave, zigbee, Wi-Fi and pro-security radios.

So far, I'm really impressed. I've never installed anything before, and I was able to do it myself, integrating with Nest (co, stat, camera), Kwikset door lock and some Z-Wave devices, plus Abode's own water sensor, PIR/camera (like Alarm.com's image sensor), siren, keypad, etc.

With the old house we just bought in San Antonio, I am going to try to understand the DIY market a little better.

Here's what I wrote back then: [Link: cepro.com]
