Julie's advice is spot on. ISE is still very much a commercial show, with a minimal amount of Resi sprinkled about. There are far more people at ISE (80,000+) than CEDIA, and the layout of the convention center is a bit of a disaster. I was able to see everything I needed to in about 2 days.
That said, it is nice to be there without some of the rep pressure at CEDIA. I've found that my domestic vendors tend to take me a bit more seriously over there, as it shows a bit higher level of commitment on my part to show up there. Amsterdam is a good time, and can be relatively inexpensive if you are careful about how you plan it. I stayed in an apartment within view of the Central station for about $150/nt, and I found places further out for a bit less.
As some of you know, I tacked on a few days skiing in the Alps after the show and that made the trip an even better value because their resorts are so much less expensive than the ones here.

They interviewed a guy from Crestron, John Clancy. He was a dealer for 20 years and Gold Programmer, says he was brought on for a dedicated focus on residential. Say's they skipped Cedia because of the direction the show is going vs where their market is going. Big presence at Cedia the year prior from DIY products and things aimed to bypass the membership, where their products are designed to be installed professionally, programmed professionally, supported professionally and their direction is upstream and upmarket. Any thoughts on this?

Any thoughts on this? Thanks for asking this - I was wondering the exact same thing.

This is not the right place to have that sort of discussion.

This is not the right place to have that sort of discussion. ehh, I disagree... I think MOST here know what cedia is, and the direction they are going. its only going to get worse with the sell of the show to a big corporation, wanna bet it becomes a CES type show? i didnt go last year but in 2015 there was ALOT of DIY products. this is a public forum, which means (hopefully) cedia watches. of course they haven't given a F% about dealers anyway so why should they care now... Have this discussion here. im very interested and heard rumblings about what you mentioned TechValley!

This is not the right place to have that sort of discussion. Why? Is Cedia not for the benefit of the consumer? Has somebody leaked top secret information?
