We have a client who has a panasonic phone system with intercoms at the gates. They want a Doorbird, but also want to have it ring the house phones like the old panasonic system does. They do no have ip phones, nor do they want to spend the money to replace all of their phones. Is there a way to make the door bird ring and work with the house phones by adding a device in between?

Thanks.

It says it has connectors for tying into your existing doorbell so it should be able to ring the Panasonic phones.

As for calling the phones.. The only way I could see that is if it would be able to connect to a SIP server of some kind? That can only be answered by DoorBird. How much money do they want to spend? It wouldn't be cheap.

Right. Doorbird has two dry contacts. IIRC, the Panasonic doorbell unit signals the KSU by shorting together two wires... ta-daa! the phone system rings as though a doorbell button has been pushed.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Is this something they NEED? Or are they just used to it being that way, and do not think it can possibly be any other way? I run into a lot of those kinds....usually they are several decades my elder. :P

As Ernie said, the Panasonic is just a contact closure. So technically, you can probably make it work just fine with the Doorbird's connections.

Now make sure they understand that they will not be able to have a conversation with someone at the Doorbird unit through the Panasonic phone system. If you do not explain this....twice....they will expect it to work that way. :)

Ring the system yes, communicate with it otherwise no. Be sure to get that disclaimer signed and in writing.

It is a very good idea that you have pointed that out.

The fact that it's a good idea that you pointed that out to us, and we should know this stuff cold, means it's a double-dog damn good idea to get a signature from your client to show that they know it, too!

They can afford to live in a house behind a gate. They can afford to upgrade to the proper systems that give them the end result they want. Tell them that doorbird is a cheap product for the regular people. If they want gated home people quality, it will cost gated home prices.

Fins, this sort of implies that you know what such products would be. What products would do what they want?
