Yup. I transitioned to RTI in 2009 after URC left me high-and-dry on an out-of-state job. I'm aware that there was a [really] bad run of T2C's that suffered failures caused by ROHS-compliance-forced lead-free solder manufacturing. Since then, however, there have been few widespread quality issues and where there were any, RTI stood behind the product and/or worked to provide beta firmware fixes, etc.

As an example, RTI produced a run of XP-6 and PCM-8's with defective MPIO ports that failed within 1-2 years. In every case, even when beyond warranty, RTI replaced the units at no charge.

Was that scenario a painful, PITA...? Yes. But they took care of it and continue to provide a product with phenomenal bang-for-buck ratio, IMHO.

We have a good amount of systems out there....we have been with RTI for 12 years and they have always taken care of our issue. They never had us send anything back to a distributor. We have also had equipment that was out of warranty taken care of, no questions asked. RTI has been bullet proof for us so far

Fwiw, they have been helpful with the return, but the return shouldn't have had to happen like this.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

Good to hear.

Very admirable.

So, you just sent those products back just for fun? ;-)

I think he must be referring to his overall experience with the company and he doesn't sell T2i's.

I'm sorry to hear so many people complain about RTI, that gives me pause. We've had relatively good luck with it, and the support has been above average (knock on wood). I've had one T2x go bad in the field (bad battery and/or charging), relatively easy to work with them for a replacement.

I will say I'm not a fan of the T2x's design, a sold rectangular block doesn't sit well in the hand; but the programming/integration are quite well done, superior to URC imho.

That said, we still use URC for smaller jobs, RTI tends to go into larger, more complicated projects.

I'd like to see URC's industrial design mated with RTI integration :) #pipedream

edit: I will state that imo the T2i is blech ... cheaper than the T2x, but far too many limitations (not least of which is no support for over the network programming)

I only use mobile devices with RTI, but I have seen a lot of complaints about the 2 series remotes. Mine has been rock solid for a long long time.

Sending 2 more T2i's in for repair today. One the screen went dim, the other is locked up. The client has been doing the normal normal "reset" to get it going but now thats a nogo.
Funny thing is, I just recently had to replace a T3V from about 8-10 years ago (Brucewayne with the assist) that has worked flawlessly until now. I put in a T3x and now my fingers are crossed....
I've been swapping out this single room T2i jobs over to MX890's on my dime just to prevent the calls and aggravated clients.

There are some positives regarding RTI and they always stood behind any problems we ever had. Even though their return policy F's anyone who purchases/installs equipment long before the homeowner gets daily use they would usually repair equipment well passed their warranty date.

Troubleshooting RTI problems is usually a complete mystery. Their XP processor utility was barely usable. Especially compared to Savant.

Repeatable systems were a joke. You spend 40 hours coming up with the perfect layout for a remote, deploy it for a year, maybe two, and then the replacement remote wouldn't scale the same. So you end up redoing everything. I got to the point where I only wanted to use iOS and T1B's. This way it was very simple repeatable system. I couldn't possibly bill a customer when a remote failed and the new one cost me 40 hours to program. Sorry your 2 year old remote failed, here is a bill for $5k.

I don't think that RTI is a lost cause by any means. They just need to hyperfocus on some key equipment/programming/business items and they can thrive as a 2nd tier control company.

I would agree with that.

Thanks jay.
That theater you helped with in Bedford is still going with the original t3+. We sent it back to upgrade the board a few years ago but besides that the RTI is still working from 09.

We should get a beer one of these days
