It's a serious issue in a lot of homes with multiple access points. Devices simply don't transition smoothly from one to the other. They will latch on to an antenna even they get closer to another.

Ya, I get that. but i really dont see that much roaming even in large houses. its not like they are watching a movie on an ipad roaming around the house. I dont really care if i takes a couple seconds do "X" if i move from the east wing to the west wing.

The biggest thing is if someone has an iPhone and makes a wifi phone call. It will drop since it won't roam correctly

What boonies do you live in that needs wifi calling? Even I have great cell coverage.

The snap ap's have "fast roaming" works well in my experience.

Does the Luxall XWC1000 not create seamless roaming between 2 XAP1510 Wireless Access Points?

Just something to keep in mind with fast roaming:

• Does any equipment NOT work with Fast Roaming/Handoff?
• Gen 1 Apple iOS products won’t work. Most newer iOS devices work correctly.
• We have reports of HP wireless printers not connecting but no model numbers have been provided yet.
*This list will be updated as we discover any new issues.

Hi Everyone,

First of all, we very much appreciate your support and feedback. Our products can only get better with your feedback.

Regarding the router firewall throughput, it's typical for routers to drop throughput when traffic goes through the firewall because of extra overhead needed to process the packets. Our lab test shows ~600Mbps speed and 3rd-party test resulted in ~500Mbps. However, we are working on a new line of routers which will include a higher-end model to support full 1Gbps firewall throughput.

Regarding our access points and roaming, earlier last year we launched a firmware update to support Fast Roaming which basically utilized 802.11r/k protocols. We have received a lot of positive feedback about the feature and how well it works in multiple access point environments. The combination of Fast Roaming and OvrC can eliminate the need of a dedicated hardware box on each job site.

As Zohan noted, the technology is two-way. This means the end devices need to support 802.11r/k in order for the roaming to be seamless. The access point is facilitating the hand-off while the end device make the decision to hop to another access point. We saw in our tests before rolling out the feature that old Apple products (think iPad gen1) didn't connect to WiFi when Fast Roaming was enabled. After doing packet analysis, when Fast Roaming is enabled, the access point starts adding 802.11r/k information to the wireless packet header. When an end device receives this header, it simply can't process it and it drops the packet. Unfortunately, the only way to make that device connect is to either turn off Fast Roaming or have another access point dedicated to that device. We have reports from the field that some HP printers exhibit the same symptoms.

We should expect newer end devices to support 802.11r/k since the standard has been widely adopted by chipset manufacturers around 2011-2012 time frame.

Thanks again for the feedback. Feel free to email me for any other feedback/suggestion

Good info. Thanks. So, what time frame is that?

I have had one in my own home since August of 2015, no issues.

ditto, albeit I deployed mine in late 2016; I've been impressed with the price/functionality ratio of the Araknis line, and the OVRC mgmt in particular. Snap AV support has also been responsive to both email and phone inquiries.

I've not had an opportunity to try this, but good to know!

I didn't realize their WiFi APs didn't support seamless roaming; is this still the case, and if so is that feature even on the roadmap?

Lack of this support kills the prospect of using their APs in any sort of even light commercial environment, imo.

True seamless roaming requires an expensive wireless controller in the rack that all WAPs are controlled by. Araknis, Luxul, Unifi, etc... none of these have that. You have to step up to serious money to get that luxury (Ruckus, Cisco, etc.. have systems for this, etc...). The controllers cost thousands.

802.11r takes care of roaming pretty well, as long as you have selected your APs correctly, installed them in the best way, and have it configured well.

As Brad said, without controller, YMMV.
I've been using it on Snap's APs without any reported issues, but I've only used it in resi, not commercial environment.

Back to OP's question -- I like the routers and use the on all my resu projects.
If I need something with a LOT of flexibility, I will go the 'tik route, but that rarely happens.
This router may not be anymore powerful than edge, but built in OVRC and price protection make it no brainer for me.
