Client has 4 each current gen ATVs all hardwired on the network plus one each of the last gen at the beach house (total of 5)

I have been fighting with the 4 current gen units for months, the store sign in credentials will fail and I end up rolling out to the site, reseting and/or forcing a software update (which is always available despite auto up set to on) and then reentering the credentials. It's good for anywhere from a day to week to ? when it fails again and we start over.

I may be on to something but need more time to test it. I manually setup the network settings last visit (set static on each box) on two of the four and both of those seem to be stable. The other two needed resets/restarts and software updates when I arrived on-site today. All four are now set to static IPs and I have my fingers crossed.

I was thinking maybe the account has too many ATVs on it which would lead me down a different path. I know I have other projects with 5 or more ATVs, same router, switch, modem, etc working fine. May try and swap out the modem next.

I asked someone in the Apple Store once if there was a limit when trying to figure out if I should keep the family on one iTunes account. I was told the limit is 5 computers and 10 iOS devices. ATV's have no limit, they don't run iOS. Or now that I think about it, at least the previous models didn't. Not sure about the ATV 4.

How about each ATV's name? Are they different or all the same? Though I don't see how this could be a problem with the software updates. But could cause other issues, such as AirPlay.

I'm trying to think...but we have a client with three properties and each has 4-5 AppleTV, all on the same account.

Sam, my biggest account (you know the one) has eight gen 3 Apple TVs on it with no problems, all on the same iTunes account.  I'd find it hard to believe that they changed something with the new gen units, but this is Apple after all.

Thanks all

All are named per room. Sounds like I can rule out hitting a max count.

I have to say that there are no max to IOS devices or AppleTVs. I have one account that has 63 iPads and 14 AppleTVs.

How many lightning cables did you "borrow" from that job? :)

Do not set up the IP manually, use a DHCP reservation. I have had the manually addressed AppleTVs start to have connectivity issues. Do a factory reset on them and then a reservation for the address and you should be all set.

I have had more issues with the 4th generation AppleTVs than any of the older ones. The never go to sleep always stops working for me and they often go to sleep, then the customer starts things up to a blank screen. Apple product can sometimes be finicky.
