Installed my first Omnimount Articulating Plasma mount yesterday. We have used Peerless in the past without a problem. Saw the Omnimount at my reps office, and liked the silver finish so gave it a try with a Fujitsu 50". Finished the install at 8p.m.
Client calls me this morning. He heard a thud, and went to his new $ 15,000. custom cabinet. The plasma was angling down inside the cabinet. Two of the four Allen bolts that held the tilt in place had their heads snap off. They were the bottom ones. Luckly, neither the plasma nor the cabinet were damaged. Has anybody else had problems with them?

I have used several of these mounts and have never had a problem. Whoever tightened the allans down must be a tough s.o.b. :)

First, you now have the title, as far as I am concerned, of Originator of the Most Attention-Grabbing Thread Title.

Second, diesel's comment articulates, pun intended, the whole problem I have with Omnimounts. If you use them anywhere up near their maximum intended weight limit, you have to crank the holy living dog poop out of the screws to keep the mount from slowly sliding down the ball. Thus, anyone with lots of experience with Omni will tend to overdo it.

Thank God the plasma did not do what it could have. I hope you have a picture to send to the guys at Omni!

Preface the picture with a note explaining that their product can actually articulate, but only once, at a whole new location.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ya, what Ernie said. I always thought that ball design was a major PITA.

And a major thank you Greg for sharing the story.

Greg, could you let us know which mount that is? I think I have one in stock that is planned for a Sony install later this month and I'd like to change mounts now before creating any extra excitement.

Which is the Peerless that has been good?

I tried a Peerless simple tilting mount, RTPSWT-UN7S that was trash. Spent 3 hours before deciding there is no way to tighten these security torx screws tight enough to keep the thing straight. It sags forward no matter what. Did they try this thing before marketing it? Got an U3T Omni Mount and it was up in no time and like a rock.

I frequently use the Peerless PLA-1 articulating arm with adaptor plate for whatever monitor I am mounting. Never a problem. Customers love the fact that they can pull out and swivel the monitor to see it from places like the kitchen nook or the lanai.

As far as a simple tilting mount, I couldn't tell you the Peerless model number. I just tell my distributor what televsion monitor I have and they send me the right mount.

You do mean the Plasma CL or UCL, not the FPCL, right?

I've only hung one of the PCL Mounts with a 37", and it's been ok, but we switched to Chief since then

I have a question for those of you using the peerless mounts.

I installed my second peerless articulating arm last friday. Everythind seemed fine until the Plasma ( sony 50") was put on the arm. It wouldn't stay level because of the two bolts holding the arm onto the bracket that get's connected to the mounting plate ( for this install I was using the universal plate.). These two bolts, Put on by peerless, have nylon washers that I was afraid to crank down for fear of ruining the washers.

I was able to get the mount level by simply pulling up on one side. It held, but a light force on the side of the TV will tilt it.

Has anyone experienced this and have a suggestion for keeping this tight? I usually dont modify the hardware on these things figuring the MFGR should be held responsible for it's product, as in the original post.

Does it on every one of them. It's a flawed design. No suggestions unfortunately.

I haven't had any problems thus far. I've been using several different brands.

Chief Manufacturing had a recall on the "2nd joint" bolt for their articulating arm. They either have nationwide agreement with companies to replace them for free or, in my case, sent the replacement bolts to me since I don't want anyone else going in to my client's homes and touching "my stuff".

For the record, Chief mounts are difficult to work with.

I thought the latest version of the PLA1 from peerless has an adjustment for leveling? I know the old ones had that problem. and DAMN ARE YOU FREAKIN LUCKY!!!!!!! That could have been beyond ugly.

It was the Plasma UCL with the universal plate. The customer was pretty cool about the situation. I know that if I was him I would have lost it! :-O

Wow our worst nightmare in the plasma hanging business.

I've used several of the Peerless PLA1 without a hitch but just ordered an Omnimount since it's about half the cost. It's due in this week so I will have to take a good look at it.

Thanks for the info.
