Does anyone have a link to successful instructions on how to root an Amazon tablet and install a full version of android on it?

Also, is it possible to lock the tablet to only run a specific app?

Which model fire tablet? Each model is slightly different and you would need a custom android rom for that specific model. You can check out the XDA dev forums ([Link: forum.xda-developers.com]) as a good place to get started, but again, be careful that whichever root method and ROM you choose to go with, you need to ensure that it is compatible with the model you have.

It's the 7, I believe gen 5. I just ordered it last week. Trying to figure it out, because if I can make it work, I need a couple more for a project.

I had to download a program to the tablet via efile called Fire Fire Fire. I then loaded it with Cyanogenmod. It worked amazing with Cyanogen....way better than the Amazon OS. Nice hardware for the price too.

It doesn't look like there is a dedicated section for this specific model, but here's a post that contains a lot of info on the 5th gen 7 inch model and details what is possible on each firmware version.
