Will converting toslink to coax, then on the other end converting it back to toslink affect the signal being input into my receiver. Will the integrity of a 5.1 digital signal be intact after the conversion happens on both ends?

Depends on the quality of the converters. Is this for a TV? Can you change it once and use a Tos-Link from another source, so you'll have a digital coax input available?

I am taking the toslink digital audio out of a Cisco HD cable box from Time Warner, and I am converting it to coax out. I am then running that coax out to my Denon 3803 receiver. I only have toslink digital audio inputs left on my Denon Receiver so when the coax digital gets back to the Denon receiver I have to convert it back to toslink.

But what if I could just change it on the cable box end to coax and run that into a coax input on the receiver. Would that still keep the integrity of a 5.1 Dolby audio signal?

Instead of converting and then converting again why not just use toslink over cat5/6?

Here is an example:

How long is the cable needed for toslink from the tv to the receiver?

For several years, I'd guess.

Ba-dum-bump.

Consider moving some of the TOSlink inputs on your Denon to coaxial, if possible. Any jiggerypokery like you're talking about would probably better be done with shorter cables.

However, I also remember reading for years that digital works.

Or it doesn't.

That is, there's no subtle degradation if it's working. Flame on, everybody!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The conversion just changes the physical connection to/from optical/electrical. The payload should be identical post conversion.

These work well...I've had many in service for years with no issues. There's a companion coaxial to optical converter for the far end that you'd order separately.
