We have a Samsung UN65KS8000 TV being controlled IR with an RTI iPad/SURFIR/XP6. The problem is that the TV turns ON intermittently. OFF works every time.

1) It works every time with the TV remote (it uses Bluetooth).
2) It works every time if the TV has been turned ON, system is turned OFF and then you turn it back on after 30 seconds or so.
3) It is very intermittent if you wait longer than 60 seconds or so (normally not turning on).

We tried a URC remote controlling the TV directly via IR. Same problem.

We have programmed many of these TVs and have never had a problem with the codes. We have:

1) Blocked out background light in case the IR window was getting flooded: no worky.
2) Relearned the code from the URC remote: no worky.
3) Tried a different ON codee from RTI library: no worky.
4) Turned lights off in room: no worky.
5) Firmware update: no worky.
6) Factory reset: no worky.
7) CEC/Anynet+: Of course it is off.
8) Checked antenna for noise: No problems.

We know it isn't the flasher as all inputs commands always work, OFF always works and the IR code from URC had the same results with no flasher/processor.

Aside from this thing being defective, anything else someone can think of? Has anyone else had the same problem? We had another Samsung this week have power issues (takes 45 seconds to turn off) so I don't know if something is going around.

Thanks in advance

Had a similar issue with a J series curved TV. It would only turn on reliably if it had been off for a minute or more. Eventually a firmware update fixed it.

Oh, I see; it's not that it turns on intermittently, it's that it responds intermittently to ON commands. (I've been awakened to the bedroom 36" coming on in the middle of the night. That's intermittent turning on.)

1) It works every time with the TV remote (it uses Bluetooth).

Not using Bluetooth, but using a command from the URC database in a URC remote, doesn't remove variables and doesn't say anything specific about IR control. Do you have any old Samsung IR remotes you can use to see if it responds to them all the time or intermittently?

2) It works every time if the TV has been turned ON, system is turned OFF and then you turn it back on after 30 seconds or so.

This is similar to the problem that mark65 had, cured by an update. Look for an update.

3) It is very intermittent if you wait longer than 60 seconds or so (normally not turning on).

Well, first thing in the morning is more than 60 seconds after you turned it off, so this means when you put it on for the first time on a given day, it's hard to get it to turn on. Seems you'd state it that way if that's the fact. Is it exactly that or something different?

We have programmed many of these TVs and have never had a problem with the codes. We have:

1) Blocked out background light in case the IR window was getting flooded: no worky.
2) Relearned the code from the URC remote: no worky.
3) Tried a different ON codee from RTI library: no worky.
4) Turned lights off in room: no worky.
5) Firmware update: no worky.
6) Factory reset: no worky.
7) CEC/Anynet+: Of course it is off.
8) Checked antenna for noise: No problems.

Those are all great sanity checks. I wonder how you checked for noise on the antenna, though. (I assume TV antenna, since you did not say.)
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Do you have an open 232 port for control? Use the exlink if you do and control it that way.

Maybe try some other ir codes?

Curious, is HDMI 4 working? Haven't had any power issues yet but this input has remained out of reach on a project and would prefer not to macro around it.

Ernie, no one cares about your bedroom TV or your pedantic questioning.

Not related but I'm having an HDMI 4 access issue in a project as well.

Try the codes for the 8500 and see if it works. Could be a bad code (see my thread about URC)

We tried that from URC's codeset and additional codesets from RTI that have always worked...same result. The discrete ON works great...IF you've had the TV on within 30 seconds previously. We've never had this issue with the 8000 series before. We think the TV is defective but I wanted to reach out here to see if anyone else had like issues.

Thanks

Do you get the same results with a toggle power code? Use a factory IR remote (not bluetooth) and see if it'll turn on from an off state after your 60 second waiting period. If it still does not turn on consistently then you can blame the TV.

Also try turning off the TV with factory remote and then try powering back on with your discrete IR. Maybe the Off command is suspect.

BTW, are you using commands from the mega list or RTI master library?

656 is the URC codeset.

If it does not work, then you need a new television.
