What do you use?

I use NovaBACKUP software pointed to my Drobo NAS.  I do a full backup once a week, with incremental backups every night.  Been stable for years.

SyncBack software to Buffalo NAS.

So I am seeing local back up only, does this mean that you do not have a cloud back up à la Carbonite, or something else offsite?

I've been using Crashplan for offsite backup and it works great. It will also do local backups and even allow you to backup to another computer over the WAN. It gives you a lot of control over the backups and resource usage.

I also use Carbon Copy Cloner for a bootable backup.

I run all of my business on dropbox. It is baked in to the OS, so you don't have to think about it. Files live on each of your devices plus the cloud (including web access) and includes 30 days (+) of previous versions. Everything syncs well when you go in and out of network coverage. It's easy to selectively share with employees and clients. If they disappear, it doesn't matter since all your files are synced locally to all your devices.

I can't imagine a more secure system. Plus, you get to let someone else manage it for you.

Hi,

It depends on what you want to backup and how you would like it to work.

There are things like "Windows File History" and "Synology Cloud Station Backup" which work by monitoring specified folders in real time and keeping "versioned" copies of any files that change somewhere, like on a NAS unit.

Then there are things like "Acronis True Image" which take snapshots in time of specified drives, partitions, folders, etc.

While you can run this type of backup on demand typically it will run on a schedule.

Some backup applications will only backup to local devices like a NAS units, others offer backup services to the "cloud" - these usually require an annual fee.

I use both types.
