I'm ready to wire up a new install and the owner wants a fairly small, 2 or 3 interior locations intercom system.......with possible ability to answer the front door. I don't want to put in an old style wall mounted intercom (thinking DoorBird or Ring Pro). Answering the front door via intercom isn't a must. They can use their phone or iPad (initial plan) for the DoorBird
In the past I'd wire every room with cat5e for phone jacks and a potential phone system. But now with DoorBird/ Ring Pro an "old style" phone system to answer the front door and to have internal communication seems out dated. Am I wrong? I personally haven't put in a phone system in a residence in a long time.
With cell phones and camera type intercoms at the front door homes not having a land line the cost of a phone system and handsets seems high for something that's pretty much just to answer the door (or just used as a doorbell and they just go to the door).
Am I alone in this type of situation? What are you guys doing? Still installing Panasonic or similar type systems?? Your feedback would be appreciated as I need to come up with a solution. T.I.A. !!

A guy I meet at a training told me about a IP intercom system called nucleus. I've never used it so can't really give you any details unfortunately

Interesting...I chatted with them briefly. They have no front door unit but are working on integrating with Ring

Depending on what I find available I may just go with the OnQ/ LeGrand

I keep hoping Doorbird would release some kind of indoor station. Nothing on the roadmap as of now AFAIK.

We have 4 out there in the wild and have heard no complaints from anyone. 1 is tied to a C4 system and 1 to an Elan system. The other 2 are standalone. The app is fine. The product is well built and engineered (leave it to the Germans).

Long term? Not sure yet. Ask me again after the warranty expires + a few months. :)

And surprisingly they work perfectly without concern for SIP, multicast, PAgP, and other network/cloud finagling or voodoo. Merely a step above a tin can on a string...will likely be the most stable part of your install ;)

Doorbird is great except for indoor mounted stations; there are none.

I've worked with one of them. I mounted an iPad on the wall in the kitchen for responding to it, but the iPad's sound output was too low to be practical. I had to use a dry contact that's part of the Doorbird to ring a plain old doorbell. (On the way to finding a doorbell, I see Lowe's and Home Despot no longer have displays of doorbells that let you hear them.)

However, the phone part works nice. I'm in LA... I rang the Doorbird once, and a moment later the client's PA drove up, on the phone, and said "someone in Chicago called to say you're at the front door...."

You're not limited to the multi-phone setup in the info that comes with the Doorbird. A person can manage the phones.

If you call Doorbird for information, say hello to Helmut for me.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Might as well mention Elan then too, room to room and room to device.

Tell them to go go old school IP intercom(in person). Yell across the house, pick up the phone so I can talk to you.
