I missed this when it was making the news, but apparently Samsung has had a problem with their washing machines catching on fire. Not all of them, just 34 models were said to be at risk. I guess this came out a few months back, but must have been overshadowed by their exploding cellphones.

But in an effort to save face, Samsung contracted with Dish Network to handle the repairs. But multiple stories are showing this may not have been the best idea.

One story I found, the customer asked the tech if he was trained on appliances, and his reply was "yes, they sent us a video to watch"

According to the articles I found, a lot. Often the machines don't woark at all afterwards. I learned about this from a relative that's been in the appliance business for 30 years. Their company was called in to fix a machine that dish screwed up. They said dealing with Samsung has been a nightmare.

I predict the IoT will bring us much more of this type of consumer experience. We're just getting started.

I think Dish had a deal where their techs would repair broken phone screens. They're quite talented, those techs.

That's a bit of a stretch if you read some of the articles and reviews on their work

It took 3 or 4 Dish and 2 years techs to discover a staple through the coax at my house. My only regret? Is that I didn't attempt to look for myself. Probably because I was thick headed for the fact that the 720k system worked great for 4 or 5 years. Then all of sudden the Hopper 2 system comes in and intermittent problems arise.

The last tech, who installed the Hopper 3 and replaced all of the wires. (When the staple was founded.) Had said that they're being trained on home security install. This was back in Feb of 2016... Have any of you ran into this yet?

PS One of my local casinos are having their 10,000 plus employees work in different areas. Such as slot techs work as security officers. Or security officers as cooks. This is as an as needed basis. Apparently they've been doing it since 2010ish or so. Of course after they laid off a bunch of people.

I wonder why you say this. It's a structural problem and there is no IoT.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

This is why I use a local independent business that installs satellite systems. They have competent techs that know what they're doing and if you have a problem with a DVR or something you can just get it exchanged at their office.

I have a friend that has one of these exploding washers and a Dish tech came out to "fix" it and ended up breaking the top cover. They ended up sending a whole new top which my friend installed himself.

I know it's a structural problem. But why was a tech from Dish Network sent? What kind of mechanical skills do they have, aside from turning a wrench for tightening the coax cable?

As Julie mentioned, they are also advertising smartphone screen repairs, and when my dish service was installed, they offered installing surround sound systems and "smart home" devices like AT&T. They are trying to branch out to as many options they can find.

Hearing the old school telco guys bitch about their new co-workers that washed in with the Directv merger is an eye opener.

Incompetent is one of the nicer things I have heard.
