I know this is dead simple for some of you, but that's why I'm asking.

I need a VGA to HDMI converter for a classroom with an old desktop machine and a new projector that they supplied with only HDMI inputs. No prob.

The sticking point seems to be a small chassis type automatic 2 in, 1 out HDMI switch. I haven't even shopped for these before so I have no go-to.

Monoprice has a pigtail unit that could work, but it's pigtails, which is not appropriate for a classroom cart. They also have a small box type switch that autoswitches, but they tell me that
a) This will switch to whichever input is on, but they can't tell me what it will do if one is on and I select the other one, and
b) The person I was chatting with "took it upstairs" for a moment and they said that these switches all switch differently so they can't promise how it will work.

Yup, they think different items of the same model will perform differently. If so, that should be discontinued right now!

Anyway, help will be appreciated. Thanks.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

We just put one in and it works great. Make sure you update the firmware.

Rounding off, how much does this cost the client?

Going back to my difficulty, here's a bit more detail that, for some reason, I did not think was necessary. It'd make too long of a post, you see.

I have two classrooms in a massage school. In each room there's a VGA cable from a computer to the projector, and an HDMI cable, Brent-specced, from a DVD player to the projector.

Someone stole the projectors. Some administrator bought replacement projectors with no VGA input.

I don't think the Atlona pieces will meet my needs in the most efficient way as I only need a VGA to HDMI converter that I can place at the projector (if it's small), or a larger one plus a 2 to 1 switch that I can place at the components.

As I see it, with the Atlona pieces I have to run HDBase10T cabling, so it's out of the budget right there; or I can just put them right next to each other. I'm not really sure of that.

But whatever. I just need VGA to HDMI. Please, nothing fancier.

(By the way, when my contact at the school got home, she found that her boss had understood in advance that there would be a problem and he got a VGA adaptor. Paying attention to my signature, I asked her for the brand and model, only to find it was an HDMI to VGA converter, exactly the opposite of what is needed.)

And I only need the switch if the VGA to HDMI converter is too large to slap on top of the projector.
