Brent, you will be needing an entourage to help you sort this mess out for people. No interview needed. I am in for a little less than $100k/yr.

Wow.

So yeah, absolutely nothing currently installed is compatible with that.

If that catches on quickly I suspect some of my Crestron DM clients will be calling their lawyers. Oh boy.....

Probably be something stupid at first, like it cannot be extended over catX and the max cable length will be like 4 feet or something.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

Maybe Brent McCall can come up with a way to run 48Gbps on something smaller and less rigid than Camera Triax. Heck, given what Audiophiles and Videophiles have long known about skin effect, why not just install 1.25" Oxygen Free copper plumbing pipe...?

In an off the cuff conversation with Buzz Delano with Celerity, he shared with me that things like the Celerity with the DFO (detachable fiber optic) heads can be our saving grace.

The cable itself is more than capable of transmitting that much data, and the ends on the Celerity pre-terminated fiber looks similar to a Mini-USB. The only limitation is in the electronics in the DFO heads that attach to each end of the pre-terminated fiber.

The current DFO heads support data streams north of 18Gb/s (slightly less with the DFO wallplates, you cannot use a wallplate on both ends and pass 18Gb/s, one side has to be a DFO head).

As the new models of Celerity come to market over the next few years, the dealer can upgrade any cables that are in the field with new DFO heads as they come to market to support the new bandwidth requirements.

In a few short years we have gone from $25-100 cables to get a signal to a television to hundreds, to thousands... How much did you say to get a signal to my $899 TV I just bought from Costco??

We're going over the hump...the cost to professionally install the TV exceeds the cost to purchase the TV.

That has been the case for awhile (at least for me).

I don't think anyone here does a couple hundred buck hang and bang, and anything more than that, you've surpassed the cost of the display.

The smartass comment about copper pipe above, and this one, make me realize that TV has truly passed from product to commodity. I mean, the cost of installing the following things exceeds the cost of the things: plumbing, electrical, cinderblock, sod, many auto parts... why not TVs?

You can bet on that! The cables available for simple old S Video were only six feet long at first. Why? Because it couldn't go any further. (This despite one old Mitsubishi 35" brick that took an S video signal in on two RCAs that very well could have been 75 ohm cables.)

The idiots who sit at their desks making high speed data able to transfer from one place to another always seem to limit "place" to something the size of their desk. I'd want to start with 30 meters as an initial maximum run!

It's cute to see the question "Does 48G Cable Even Exist?" answered by "The compliance testing will check the speed when it is completed," (Pasqualino) says." Pasqualino doesn't say no, but he sure as hell doesn't say yes! "Can your car go to 60 mph in four seconds?" "The testing will check the speed when it is completed" is a complete NON-ANSWER. It only tells us someone is measuring and gives not even a hint at performance.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The last General Contractor I worked with told me, "it's all going wireless."

So...It think we're covered, then...
