Talking to another guy in trade and he said ISP put in a new emta and it automatically configured customers AP as an ISP hotpot. Think he said Ruckus was the AP. Possible? Sorry for lack of details, just curious.

TW and Comcast both broadcast public wifi hotspots from their combo routers by default nowadays.

You can turn it off in your account settings.

As for re-configuring a ruckus AP to do this as well, Sounds very unlikely. I'm quite sure there would be legal ramifications if their routers were re-configuring third party access points.

This may be part of the public WiFi system set up by the ISP. They're using your WAN connection and power to provide their services, all while telling customers "We'll even include a free Hot Spot". Oh, boy.

They told me they don't allow port forwarding on commercial internet service, but I got tired of arguing that clients want to be able to view their site using their cameras and DVR so, while I understand their need for security, they need to allow this to.......gag.........OK, I'll return it to the default settings.........not.

The T-W guy was quick, seemed to know what he was doing and even gave me his card, in case of problems. Too bad their resi installers aren't the same.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

If default passwords in the equipment has been changed (which had better been done), then it would be impossible for the ISP to do what he is suggesting.

Unless they had a tech on site and physically reset and changed things - then I would be kicking someone's a$$.

there is no way to turn this off in the gateway. It shuts off for 24 hours and then returns to on. the only way to fully prevent this crap is to provide your own modem so your connection and house don't become a public hot spot.

not true with comcast. Not for me anyway. I've had to turn my back off a couple times back when they were rolling this out, but its been "off" for over 6 months now at my house.
