I have a Denon AVR-3803 receiver. I can not get into the system setup menu. All other functions appear on the screen from the monitor out as they should such as volume, tone, etc, but when I press system setup on the original remote control for the unit which is the RC-921 remote, the system setup does not appear on screen. I thought it might be the remote because the volume up and down stopped working. I downloaded the codes for the unit to a jp1 remote, and all the codes including the volume up and down work perfectly, but the system setup does not work. I did numerous initializations of the receivers microprocessor as per the manual, and I still can not get into the system setup menu. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

What does the display of the AVR read when you hit setup?

What video output are you monitoring?
I don't have a 3803 manual in my archives, but the prior unit, the 3802, had component video outputs but, as I recall, the menu only appeared on the composite video output.

The video output I am trying to monitor is the system setup menu for setting up the receiver.

The video output I am trying to monitor is the system setup menu for setting up the receiver. USING WHAT THE F*CK OUTPUT? HDMI? COMPONENT? COMPOSITE? I'd think that my comment about component and composite would be a broad enough hint that we're looking for what the Denon Receiver has printed next to the little hole on the back of your receiver where you've plugged in the doohickey on the end of the wirey thing that goes to your TV and makes the TV screen all shiny and changey. One could say motiony, even. P.S. "That is correct" IS NOT an appropriate response after several questions have been asked, some answers given, some remarks indicating that one of the answers is correct, and you don't even have the sense to know that "That is correct" tells us absolutely NOTHING about which post you're replying to.

When I hit system setup on the remote absolutely nothing whatsoever changes on the receivers' display. If you mean that nothing changes on the front of the receiver, make sure the remote has good batteries. If the volume control buttons work, try pressing the Menu button on the face of the receiver and sit there while you do the setup. At some point in the Options section, it should ask if you want to lock the setup- press NO.

The problem of no setup menu being output to tv monitor from Denon AVR-3803 receiver has been solved by Brian Phoenix. The answer is as follows. The setup menu will not appear on the screen if headphones are plugged into the unit. Thank you for everyone who responded to my problem.

Well at least it was intuitive.
