Oh and after mucking around with every cheapo IR kit I could find in hopes of saving money, like many others I've settled on Xantech and nothing else.
Bingo.
Bravo!
Exactly!
I haven't checked lately, but Xantech instructional materials state (used to, anyway) how much current each part requires, meaning you could make a complicated system using only one power supply. Last time I was asked to use multiple Niles devices, for instance, to control TEN DirecTV boxes, the factory data did not include any amperage information. The techs at the factory didn't have any info. They expected us to use a 1-ampere supply for each IR receiver/emitter combo. I did the research and found that FIVE receiver/emitter combos could safely and conservatively be powered by one supply.
Most importantly, don't even think of mixing brands of IR stuff. That's a good way for something not to work and for you to have no idea why.

As has already been mentioned, you can't do it because the Denon is expecting a 2-conductor 'Tip-Sleeve or TS" connection which will not supply power to the IR receiver. IR receivers require 12VDC, which is why they are almost always part of a system that includes a connecting block and power supply, which then could connect to the Denon with a mono mini IR cable.
Did the Kars10 miss this information? Is it in the manual? If not, why the hell not?
EDIT: The Infrared Sensor is mentioned on P 64 of the manual, with ZERO details beyond "sold separately." There's more stuff in that drawing also without model numbers and with no explanation in the text. Those Denon guys should read my signature! END EDIT.
For that matter, is the Denon input expecting an IR sensor output (high current) or an IR LED signal (Sensor output plus current limiting resistor)?
Kars10, you can always start a new thread. You don't have to piggy-back onto an old thread about a different subject. As you can see, many people will jump in to help.
