Just one mans perspective.

Security/notification systems are so integral to home control that AV CI's should absolutely see if this is a game that they can play in....is not for the one man shop but with a small amount of scale you can control this process. At the very least you should get a good education on exactly how they work and what the best practices are. The RMR is still a nice income stream but more importantly you are not risking your reputation on a feature that some customers will feel is the most vital to the whole system.

Don't forget about licensing and insurance requirements before jumping into the security and surveillance game.

I'm amazed at how many don't relize that they need to be licensed to do video surveillance in addition to being licensed to do security.

It depends where you're from. Here all you need is security ticket. As far as cameras, you don't need anything.

Exactly. This made me think go the Securifi routers I've read about recently that boast the ability to be used for home security as well as the traditional routing chores. Now the IT guy is gonna set up your home security? It's getting weird out there...

There is no licensing in my area for security (I was surprised to find out). At least as long as you stay within the right county/cities. However, the general liability insurance I needed jumped big time. And then, of course, you also need good contracts.
