Am I the only one completely bothered and bugged by Snap AV's on hold song? It's one single classical music song. Why in the world would they think custom installers want to sit on hold and listen to this one song over and over. And there's one part where the violin get so high-pitched if you have a Bluetooth on you'll want to throw it across the room.
If you don't stop and look around once in a while, life will pass you by.

You're an analog guy living in a digital world.

onetime,
What did they say when you talked to them about it?

You make a good point and I bet someone there would like to hear it, especially if they hadn't thought of how their MOH might sound on bluetooth headsets.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Really? So what "manufacturer" in our business is not?

No, that is a bad question because there are many who do own their own manufacturing, but to say they are a distributor is just being inflammatory.

They employ scores of engineers and QC folks, have their own testing labs, and have moved fully beyond slapping their own white label on OEM product. Way beyond distributors that I know.

Hey buddy, I went to the first Snap AV tour and saw all those engineers and QC folk, did a round table with all their teams.

Was there back in July, those people are all gone! Place was a ghost town. Word on the street is that the new CEO came in and said they weren't going to do that. They are going back to buying from China and slap their label on stuff.

Go take a visit my friend, it's not the same place. I can find better prices and better service from multiple other distributors.

Hey buddy...just had the tour in October. I don't know what you are talking about....The place was full and they were expanding when I was there. I don't know what word on the street you are getting but I have heard that the investment in engineering is increasing.

There is a delivery restaurant around here. When you're on hold for customer service, they play 7 seconds of music (actual real music, keeps changing), followed by a 12 second message about how important you are, 5 seconds of dead air... and then it starts over again with 7 seconds of music. I couldn't believe how ridiculous the cycle was... especially after listening to it for over 20 minutes!

There was a car speaker/amp company called Soundstream that had the craziest on hold music back in the mid 90s. It was always fun to call tech support and see what they had playing on hold.

Fry's Electronics used to have piano music playing in the stores. Someone said it had been recorded by the wife of one of the executives. It was appropriately vanilla -- nothing offensive, nothing that would wake you up, nothing too too interesting unless you happened to just love music nicely done.

One day I walked past a phone in one of their stores and it was playing the piano music. I asked the salesperson why he was playing that music and he told me he was on hold with another store. The same music was playing and it was synchronized better than every surround receiver's zone 2 ever.

We were Soundstream dealers and I have to agree. I recall a story told by a trainer where he was pranked by another trainer with an ad in the local paper (giving out this trainer's home number as a contact), giving away a free monkey. The guy comes off the road to a FULL answering machine of people giving their resume on why they would be perfect candidates for the free monkey. The "cassette" was brought in, and the audio was used as the company's on hold "music".

I've always wanted to know if companies have someone sit on THEIR hold, just to walk in our shoes.
