IR is too responsive, making on screen navigation difficult. Turned down the emitter, tried the electrical tape/pinhole trick, moved emitter to different locations on the Roku Ultra, still too responsive. Also turned of the repeat while button is pressed. Any tips?

I have the Ultra and even with IR straight from a Pronto remote, it is doing this. So I think it is an IR code issue. I haven't had a chance to explore this yet, 1st step was going to be capturing the IR codes from the factory remote and see how that does.

Thanks for the reply, I will try learning the codes.

I thought the factory remote was only RF?

I had to use the Roku IR hex codes and set for 0 repeats on all commands for the 890,980,and 780's.

I think some of the older Roku remotes were both. I'm hoping this remote is anyway. Otherwise this might turn into a long search to get clean codes.

No Roku remote was both, it was just the Roku itself that accepted both. All console roku accept iR roku commands, just the Stick its RF only.

With URC 980's, I've experienced the exact same problem (excessive repeating of the "joystick" functions) on all of the new 2016 Roku models, including the Ultra, Premier+, etc. After trying the URC library codes, which have always worked perfectly on previous Roku models, I've also tried 4 or 5 sets of hex codes I found various places online (including RC.com) and all of them have the same problem.

After some testing, I did initially conclude that turning off the "repeat while pressed" function in the MX-980 was a good work-around, but I later discovered that in certain Roku screens, like the Search screen, the problem was still there even though the MX-980 repeats were turned off. Of course, turning off the repeats also prevents the user from pressing and holding the joystick to "scroll" horizontally or vertically. However, I was willing to accept that limitation as a trade-off if my work-around prevented the excessive repeating of the joystick functions.

After the report from my client that the Search screen is still exhibiting the problem, I guess my work-around didn't work after all.

Can someone (Roku?) please provide a revised set of IR codes for the 2016 Roku models?

Thanks

Have you tried separating the emitter from the Roku by a couple inches? I've built little emitter holders out of coat hangers that hold the emitter bulb up and pointed where they need to go for different devices, but just a couple inches away.

As I mentioned before, this happens even with IR straight from the remote (no emitter involved).

It is starting to sound like this will only be fixed by a firmware update on Roku's part. Seems they might have screwed something up.
I would encourage everyone working with this problem to send a report to Roku about the problem. Because if they only have a handful of complaints, they will not see it as a problem and will do nothing. If they get a LOT of complaints, they will look at the issue - fearful it could impact sales.
As big as Roku has become, they are still a small company compared to the world. And they have a lot of competition these days - a lot!

What you wrote was crucially different from this in a way that reinforces the thoughts about this problem.

You said this happens even with IR straight from a PRONTO. Here you say it happens "even with IR straight from the remote," which implies from the Roku remote.

Best of luck. I had a similar problem with a Roku 4 and an MX980, but only on the cursor pad. Editing down to zero repeats solved it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I just had this problem over the weekend. This was with RTI using the RTI codes. I did not try turning off the "sustain when pressed" but I did change the repeats from 1 to 0. I ended up downloading the Global Cache codes from their site, changed the repeats to 0 and this worked.
