Have a client with a C4 system and a ring system. I figured the contact part of ring was just that, a contact. It seems though it's not and communicates back to the "power supply"

I'm trying to trigger an event with the ring. I know blackwire has a beta driver but want todo this with a reliable ole contact. Basically he want the doorbell to play through the distributed audio system.

My thought is to just maybe tap the doorbell it's self?

My back up is to just use the C4 door station but he wants the use of the app for obvious reasons!

Communicates back to the power supply means.... voltage comes out of those terminals? If so, create a dry contact by having that voltage trigger a relay.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The Ring Pro connects to the existing doorbell wires- I don't know if this helps/pisses you off, but I thought I would toss that out there.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I know, but there is also a power booster/signal receiver that goes in where the chime is. I thought this would be a dry contact but seems that it just sends some signal over the wire. I'll just tap into the chime, there is a contact happening somewhere in there

Our driver is very reliable. If you are tracking contact closure then the driver will be exactly what you need.

PS we haven't released it since it for a reason. Imagine what huge feature is missing and that we are working on adding it.

add a wired or wireless contact at the doorbell chime and when it closes just have it play the announcement.

I've considered powering a Doorbird from the old-timey doorbell wires in the house, and in fact the instructions say you can do this.

There's no mention of taking the actual doorbell out of the circuit if you replace the doorbell transformer with the Doorbird transformer. It could work with the doorbell still in the circuit, if the Doorbird's current requirement is low enough.

You got the right thread Ernie? The Doorbird documentation says that you cannot use the existing doorbell transformer to power the Doorbird AND use the existing chime. Well, at least, if you only have 2 conductors to work with.

Aphiliac,
Let me refresh what you were reading.

I said nothing about using the doorbell transformer, because the Doorbird instructions tell you that you have to remove the doorbell transformer and put the Doorbird supply in its place. (At least that's what I remember.) Now that I've said that, back to my quote:
There's no mention of taking the actual doorbell out of the circuit if you replace the doorbell transformer with the Doorbird transformer.

I could be wrong. Again, that's what I remember reading.
It could work with the doorbell still in the circuit, if the Doorbird's current requirement is low enough.

See, the question is, since the Doorbird instructions don't tell you to remove (and short together the wires of) the old doorbell, are doorbells so low in resistance that the Doorbird will work with a doorbell in series with the Doorbird?

Is that any clearer? It's what I intended. Sorry if I left out detail, which, of course, always makes posts longer....
