We recently bought a mattress from Nest Bedding. The Alexander. Very satisfied and the pillows they have are also some of the best and are adjustable for firmness.

Can also visit sleepopolis.com for reviews. Especially for the foam and newer foam/spring mattresses from Nest, Casper, tuft & needle, etc.

How much you willing to spend?

All my clients seem to have mattresses from Hastens and swear by them:
[Link: hastens.com]

I'm not exactly sure how much they cost, but the high-end models are over $100k according to the guys delivering and setting them up.

I've slept on two different Hastens mattresses for a few nights each in guest houses and they were both quite pleasant.  I think these were lower end models that cost much less.  It's hard to describe, but aside from being comfortable they just feel luxurious... kind of like sitting in an Aston Martin with all the nice leather.

Spending some dough on a good mattress is money well spent, especially if the bed is good enough quality to last a long time.

$100K for a freaking mattress? What else does it do?

We bought a Tuft n Needle this year. Its a bit too firm for me but my wife likes it. We put a 2" memory foam topper on it that I already had in the closet and it works well. I heard that the Caspers are nice too and a step softer than the TN. The Purple ones look good too.

I was at a new resort a few years ago and the mattress was the best I'd ever slept on. I sent an email to the corp. that owned the place and they gave me the name of it. I bought the home version, no zip off top layer, but otherwise identical. It was kind of like getting a free trial before buying, lol! Anyway, I think this is one thing you just have to pick for yourself, kind of like buying 'the best remote'. Also, the hotel versions usually have better edge support than home versions, maybe you should look at hotel versions.

5 years ago I bought a mattress from these guys http://www.mattresses.net/
I wanted a latex mattress after laying on one at a store but didn't like the $4000+ price. Lots of options and I took a chance and got the bed that has medium on one side of the bed and firm on the other. I figured if I didn't like the firm I could send it back and would only have to ship one piece. The combo works, I like the firm and my GF likes the medium. Its a risk buying something like that online but I liked the ability to choose the bed components and was willing to pay return shipping if I needed to change something out.

Denver Matress gave me 100% credit from a bed i bought there 6 years prior.

I love my air mattress. King size with individual controls.

Same here.

Only down side is that I like my side pretty firm, and the wife likes her side very soft, so I roll over it's like falling off a cliff.

But, that works out now and then... :-)

i just got a ghost bed about a month ago... vanessa and i like it...

the owner of ghost bed is the brother of one of my clients back in chicago....

the ghost pillows are a must have as well... love the pillow more than the bed.

the bed is not hot at all and im in florida... so thats a good thing... and the pillow does not get hot at all... doesnt stay cold, but it is cooler than my regualr pillows

vanessa made me get rid of my 10 year old select comfort bed... she hated that bed.

The only mattresses i have ever had a good night sleep on were no-brand cheap furniture store mattresses. My attempts to buy a decent mid range mattress have all failed. The $1000-2000 range has bought me a mushy bed (my girlfriend picked it) and one thats as hard as a rock (i picked it).

We are moving at the end of the month and i want to buy a new mattress. So far the only one i like is the "hotel" brand in the hotels i have been staying at. Hyatt, Hilton, Marriots that i stayed at this year all had great mattresses with the "HOTEL" brand on them. I need to figure out what company actually makes them.

We are seriously considering buying two queen beds so that we can choose the mattress we want. My current bed is so bad i usually end up on the sofa in the middle of the night.

You can buy Hilton and Marriot mattresses.

Westin has a store also

Of course, if a new one is too high, I know someone that can get you a deal on one already broken in (if anyone remembers my worst Christmas present ever thread)

I'm a big fan of hybrid mattresses -- short springs for support and memory foam on top. The biggest advantage of this design is that you can easily move into different sleeping positions at night and you get much better spine support. The problem with most memory foam mattresses is that you sink into them (even the firm ones). The springs help with this.

After trying out numerous types, springs, gel, memory foam, latex etc. I found this combo to be my favorite. I haven't slept better and no more back pain from memory foam.

Serta, Sealy and Temperpedic (TEMPUR-Flex model) employ this design. Tempurpedic's Flex is a lot more expensive than other brands. I have a Sealy and love it.

I just saw a video for the Purple mattress, and have to say I'm really interested. My ex and I had just bought a Tempurpedic with the cooling gel about 4 months before we separated, and I loved it. It was harder to leave the mattress behind than it was to leave her. Was it worth $4k? My lower back pain says yes, but I'll be damned if I'm spending that kind of money on a mattress.

I have a friend who sometimes is "out there" with lots of whacky notions. One of these is he never understood people who would pay $50K+ for a car to drive 30 minutes a day, but $500 for a mattress they sleep on for hours a night.

That said, we have a Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe. It is not as hot as it has some cooling layers. I think they have a newer version with even more cooling features.

We had a Sleep Number and at first it was great. I was about a 75 and the wife was a 40. Over time I was maxed out at 100 and she was in the 70's. So something happened. While we did really like it, I didn't like that the edges were so soft and hard to sit on to put on shoes etc. Of course that was like 20 years ago and I am sure they have gotten better.

A mattress should be lasting you a hell of a lot longer than 3 years. Where are you buying them?

All good input. Now im confused more folks lol. Its a hard purchase for sure.

Just buy all of the online direct ones, sleep in them all for a week, then send back all the ones you did not like. :)

Be careful with this. A lot of those online mattresses are exceedingly difficult to get back into their respective boxes. I'm sure they are designed that way. :-)
