Given the last one is three years old and a plethora of new online mattress companies have sprung up, figured it was time for another opinion thread.

In DESPERATE need of a new mattress. Any one tried Casper? Leeza (if thats right), Mattress in a box, others?

I had a temporedic for about year several years ago. Its in storage since it was WAY to hot to sleep on. But super comfy.

Googling ratings and not seem like the 'it' mattress. Most have fair to poor edge ratings (support at the mattress edge). Concerns me a bit since I sometimes sleep on the edge (kinda like I live sometimes lol).

Ideas? Opinions?

A mattress should be lasting you a hell of a lot longer than 3 years. Where are you buying them?

I have a hard mattress and spent the money on the 6" topper.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Purple has the best ads. :)

We just bought a new one last year. We went with a pretty high end Simmons hybrid inner spring mattress with some foam layers on top. We got a killer deal since we are friends with the owner. I worked in the furniture/bed business through my young years. Tons of markup and lots of industry rigged gimmicks in bed especially.

It has been killer. We were planning on a Tempurpedic, but the only one that was soft enough was the top of the line and about $6k. No thanks!

I spent a long time finding the perfect pillow. I got one I am happy with but the Purple pillow might end up under the tree this year for a go.

I guess you cannot go wrong with most of the online beds, as they have good return policies. Depending on where you live, you might be able to try some in person.

My parents used to buy a new mattress about every 3 years. I saw them get rid of some in just a year. They both have back issues. My mom has fibromyalgia. They bought a sleep number about 8 or 9 years ago and have not considered replacing it.

Started with tuft and needle... Way to firm. It got donated and purchase refunded. I got desperate and decided to try Casper. Love IT. I'm a hot sleeper, it's not great, but a heck of allot better than any other mattress I've tired.

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

The original Tempurpedic were hot.

The newer ones address that with additional layers of different materials.

We have two of the newer ones and they are not hot but still super comfortable.

I am normally not this guy, but I've had a lot of soreness in my hips and lower back lately (late forties start to suck that way). I qualified for a sleep number credit card/no interest financing for two years, so I sprang for a king and havent looked back. Yeah, I'm sure I paid a huge mark up but for me it's been worth it, plus they supposedly last a crazy long time as there are no springs to wear out. Love that my wife can choose her own firmness as well.

In the long run its worth it I think. I just got the second from the bottom unit, and have been sleeping great.

How much you willing to spend?

All my clients seem to have mattresses from Hastens and swear by them:
[Link: hastens.com]

I'm not exactly sure how much they cost, but the high-end models are over $100k according to the guys delivering and setting them up.

I've slept on two different Hastens mattresses for a few nights each in guest houses and they were both quite pleasant.  I think these were lower end models that cost much less.  It's hard to describe, but aside from being comfortable they just feel luxurious... kind of like sitting in an Aston Martin with all the nice leather.

Spending some dough on a good mattress is money well spent, especially if the bed is good enough quality to last a long time.

Just finished a project that had a new hastens in every room! 5 of them. Didn't know they were so high end, but considering the client, makes sense.

The only mattresses i have ever had a good night sleep on were no-brand cheap furniture store mattresses. My attempts to buy a decent mid range mattress have all failed. The $1000-2000 range has bought me a mushy bed (my girlfriend picked it) and one thats as hard as a rock (i picked it).

We are moving at the end of the month and i want to buy a new mattress. So far the only one i like is the "hotel" brand in the hotels i have been staying at. Hyatt, Hilton, Marriots that i stayed at this year all had great mattresses with the "HOTEL" brand on them. I need to figure out what company actually makes them.

We are seriously considering buying two queen beds so that we can choose the mattress we want. My current bed is so bad i usually end up on the sofa in the middle of the night.

If your bed is hot or cold, you need to look at ChiliPad. I love that thing.
I turn it up to 102 when going to bed so that sheets are not cold, then as I get comfortable I turn it off.
On occasion I turn it down to 62 or 68, but it quickly gets too cold.
