I need to replace a 1500VA UPS that has expired. I need a unit that's no more than 16.5" deep [which rules out most] and at least 1100VA/990W capacity and QUIET.

I often use Tripp-Lite's SMARTLCD1500, but it has a fan that runs constantly, which is a problem infor this in-theater application.

Any suggestions?

I'm presently considering the Wattbox WB-UPS-1100-8, but Snap cannot tell me how its fan functions [i.e. only on battery vs. full-time] and how loud it is [in dBA]. If anyone has one of these and can comment on its noise level, that'd also be helpful.

TIA

I installed two of the 1500VA Wattbox units about 2 months ago in a job I'm wrapping up now.  They're in racks in a mechanical room so noise isn't an issue, but I can confirm that the fan in the units doesn't run unless power is out and it's on the inverter.

It's possible the fan will also run if ambient heat increases, but I've not seen this happen at my installation.

Thanks, SBS--That's helpful information.

After I posted, Snap AV followed up via email with a stated noise figure of <45dBA. The manual seems to suggest [as do you] that the fan only operates in AVR or inverter mode.

So...WINNER!

An other suggestion is an APC-1500G. [Link: apc.com]

I personally have this for a year or 2. The fan only turns on during battery operation. It also has the "smart" outlets. Controlled by one programmable master outlet. Of which it's on the battery side. And a few of the slaves are on the surge only and an other on the battery too.
