I'll just home run all of the sensors in the can and loop them together with DIN rail!

It's all based on resistance so think of it like speakers, you need to present the same resistance that one sensor would present. You can do 4 or 9 sensors in a parallel/series configuraiton. The document linked lays it out really well!
