I am not leaving the house today.
With that say, I am a keyboard warrior, armed with my favorite CC.

I see this 4' ladder for a good deal @ $20
[Link: slickdeals.net]
[Link: lowes.com]

That ladder is a black colored version of a green ladder, Werner's regular color. The specs of the two ladders are the same, and the ad doesn't actually mention the color of the ladder.

Well, I went to Lowe's last night to get two of those ladders, found the green ones, and asked why the discount price wasn't on them. They would not sell the green ones... same spec... at the discount. They were out of stock on the black ones. The sale price is good until November 30, Wednesday, and they benefit from getting people into the store on an ad for product that they didn't order in enough quantity to be sure they'd have stock. (This store ordered fifty).

Anyway, we went to customer service; argued the logic of getting the green ladder at the the twenty buck price; were politely refused; then got two green ladders at the discount price after asking to speak with the manager.

I'd encourage anyone who would like one of these ladders to go to Lowe's and do the same thing. I think it was crass and nearly a scam to price a product different only in color (is it cheap because it's black?), then not order enough to fulfill demand. Be sure to mention that there's a discussion of this situation going on in an international internet forum (here). We were about to mention that we bought some major appliances from them and what the hell....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Most Black Friday "deals" aren't worth it or bait and switch, always have been, always will be. Good for you for holding it to them.

What's the problem with the color and why did you think it would be green? Both links for the 4' ladder show dark gray/black, not green. In the color photo, it's NOT green and the ad doesn't show anything about the color.

I only saw two of the black ones in the aisle with the rest of the ladders and when I didn't see the 300# platform I had seen in their ad (which showed them in stock), I went to the end cap and found both.

Bait N Switch? In this day & age?

Why isn't the green one the same price? Ever heard of a promotional item?

Im not sure why they would honor the black friday deal on a different ladder?! The deal was for the gray ladder not the green ladder. Just like a best buy tv deal on model X. If its the same as model Y, does it matter? The deal on model X.

Doesnt matter if green is the same as gray. Gray is the deal. Thats whats on sale. I dont see this as bait and switch. The gray ones were clearly marked in the store as the black friday deal. I picked up two of them. The add didnt say want color but the display clearly showed the deal.

Not really understanding your argument here. Im surprised they gave you the non black friday deal. Surely they just wanted a happy customer or to get you off their back.

I went to Lowe's maybe mid-afternoon on Friday, and they had plenty of black ladders left. It wasn't bait and switch, and arguments that Lowe's was doing anything wrong are ridiculous paranoia.

Most likely Werner made a run of ladders for Lowes at a steeply discounted price. They made them different than their standard green ladder so as not to reduce the perceived value of their normal stock ladder.

Throwing a fit because you didn't act in a timely manner is just silly at best.

I saw a BF deal at Home Depot for one of their shop vacs and I got there about the same time the doors open, but they were out. Someone came over to ask what I was looking for and I mentioned that they're supposed to stock the advertised items, so he set me up with a better one for the same price. I didn't bitch, it was a friendly exchange and I thanked him for doing that.

Having been in retail for over 40 years, I have seen my share of PO'd customers and the ones who got the best service were calm and decent about it. If someone came from a long distance, we would work out some kind of arrangement for different product or to cover shipping, so they wouldn't need to return.

Did you check the available QTY?
I show my local (87144) store having 20.
Local zip code search shows another location has 26 and Santa Fe location with only 1. All others are out.
The description clearly says "While Available".

What pisses me off is that the add shows free shipping, top of the screen shows free shipping, but at least for me, shipping is not available and local truck is $75!
WTF is that?!?

If one ladder is black and the other is green, then the specs of the ladders are not the same. Ladder color is a spec.

So basically, this is a different colored version of the Werner green ladders. The green werners are the biggest pieces of shit one can buy when buying a ladder. I don't even think they are approved by OSHA for use on a job site. Quit crying and buy something that won't get you hurt.

Don't you all already have ladders? How do you conduct business? I have more ladders than I know what to do with them.

Goldenz. May I say, you're getting a little harsher over time and seem a bit eager to pounce on Ernie's posts. Maybe it's time to look the other way for a while to cool the hostility. He's not responding to the snark which is good on him.

Just an observation. Take it for what it's worth. (Tell me to MYOB if you wish.)

I didn't throw a fit. I was relentlessly reasonable, but did I say relentlessly?

FWIW it was about an hour between seeing the "deal" and trying to buy them. That took place on November 26, leaving four days of sale. I think I acted in a timely manner.

One irritating bit at my location is that the ad said free shipping, but those who tried to order it were told to go pick them up at the store. Where there was no stock. Oh, and yes, you're right, that doesn't make any kind of sense at all, but that's what people were being told.
