I am so sick of going to past customers to try to update MX-880, MX980 and the like and then having to spend 30-45 minutes to get the new USB driver to update.

I wrote down the update driver process but it seems like there is always some kind of glitch.

Just make it update automatically. Is it that hard??

1st world problem rant over.

I have a customer with four MX-880's. He is not going to like purchasing four new remotes because I can't update them.

Point well taken. In a pinch, doesn't everybody have an old laptop that will work on the occasional glitchy remote?

EVERY TIME I go back to an old client or to a new client with an old remote it's always an extra hour because of some stupid crap like that!

An hour or two extra for a 10 minute job IS a huge pain!!

Just when you think you have it working and all is good, you're jumping through hoops again a few days later!

I still have an old laptop running XP but it seems pretty stupid to have to drag it around just to support ONE manufacturer and the last time I checked it's 2016 and this issue should have been addressed a long time ago.

I do like URC.
I've been loyal since the release of the MX-700.

I do have to admit that I'm getting a little gun shy now.

I have this dumb Toshiba running W8.1 that just works with everything!

CCP always comes up "unresponsive" when I first start it. Close down, restart, always good. Did that with my Dell on XP too.

It's so good, I almost updated an MX850 with CCP last week.

Me too!
On my own system.

I have two 980's(along with three 890's,a 5000,two 780's,and two KP4000's!)

I added another Roku player.

30 minutes to program ALL of the remotes since it was added to a matrix.

Another hour or so to get the proper drivers for the 980's!!!

At first I was kicking myself for leaving my XP laptop at work.

Then I was considering lining them up on the fence for target practice!

It shouldn't be this frustrating!

I updated an OLD RTI t1 the other day on windows 10.(surprised the remote still worked!) and it only took a few minutes!

Ancient Lutron,Elan VIA,etc. no problems.

So whats up with URC?

Planned obsolescence ?

More like lack of grey matter!

In 10 years I have yet to get a SINGLE URC tech that could help with any issue. It's always, never heard of it before, we don't have issues etc etc.

I loved the 880 and the 980 but after constant connection issues and then the whole MSC400 - 64bit issue, just couldn't support them anymore.

Ever been to URC training run by Brett Kozlowski? Call him and tell him if their support people can't help, but get their name before calling, or he might not be able to help. I told him that one of their "support specialists" couldn't help over the phone, so I asked if he wanted me to e-mail the config file so he could test it. His response? "I don't know what good that would do". I was dumbfounded because other people in support had offered this kind of help and also because the guy's attitude sucked. When I told Brett what the guy said, I thought his head was going to explode. Unfortunately, I hadn't gotten the name, but I do now.

I had to make some changes to an MX-850 a couple of months ago and when I looked at it, I shuddered because the initial setup took far too long and it just didn't work. The guy trying to help is the same person who was making the videos that show how to program their remotes and he couldn't even get it to work by using Team Viewer, so he asked me to e-mail the config to him so he could work on it. I even deleted the Editor and re-installed- no help. I tried using another computer, but that didn't work, either. It would connect intermittently with the GoldX serial to USB adapter. This time, I used a computer that I got from a client, that has a serial port and it worked beautifully.

URC uses remote desktop software (forget which one they use). Only reason to even have to send a file to them is if they would like to test with their equipment to duplicate an issue.

You guys are having issues with remotes, I can't update any URC software on my laptop. I have had multiple calls into support, removed/disabled all antivirus software, uninstalled and reinstalled the software and it still won't let me download updates. Why can't they just provide a link to the newer version?

This is the only software that will not update on my computer so I know it has something to do with their software, yet no one can seem to figure out how to fix it.
You can't fix stupid

They had me install Team Viewer and yes, the file was e-mailed to them so he could test it. As I wrote, it didn't work on the two computers I used and I did try a different Serial-USB adapter, both with updated drivers and correct COM ports.
